Driving down the highway, when all of a sudden the car in front of me swerves out of control and then pulls off. As I pass them I see they hit a 5 gallon bucket of paint which exploded all over the car and windshield. Fast forward a week and I wash my truck. Except now I'm seeing that I must have drove through the paint impact cloud which left several tiny white spots all over my front bumper, tailgate, and rear fender. Now I dont know if I should file an insurance claim or just suck it up. My truck has 7k miles on it. Any advice helps.

I'd first try cleaning a test spot with mineral spirits, then dependant on those results, decide what to do next.

Wow. I'd see what your insurance co says about it.

Pressure wash with lubricating soap? Or maybe a clay bar? Contact your local detailer and see if they can do something about it.

Don’t just use any solvent on it, consult an auto painting pro first. They give free estimates too.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Fingernail, microfiber cloth and 9A12644F-822C-4837-AE2F-EA270DECC74A.jpgalthough a friend of mine would use a razor blade (which I couldn’t do- I’d destroy the fuckin’ thing) as well. I think someone said wd40 but don’t quote me on it

If it’s fresh, try clay bar, paint thinner, gasoline.. in a small inconspicuous area first. Followed by a good wax!

    This and that...
Maybe a the 3M gummy wheel used for taking decals off the paint will work.... At least you know it's safe.

I already used mineral spirits on the windshield. Even with a razor it was difficult to remove.

Clay bar. Should come off pretty easily. Might be a pain in the ass but it's just elbow grease.

A good professional detailer (read: not some kid who can vacuum and wax) will be able to remove all of this.

That's going to take a lot of elbow grease to remove. I'd contact a detailer to see how much they'll charge to remove it.

I've had this happen before. Drove right through the shit. It's a lot of work but clay bar will get it off

I had good luck using bug and tar remover after driving over yellow road line paint (no wet paint sign btw)

Time and patience. Let the product soak in. Probably took 5 hrs over a few days

Good luck. That stinks. If basic cleaning doesnt work then I'd get an estimate from a detailer

Whatever you do, don’t use a Mr. Clean magic eraser.

I concur with the clay bar

    NOW YOU FREAKIN' TELL ME

I found this out the hard way on my boat which the previous owner put these massive stickers on the hull which is painted aluminum. Sticker glue was hardcore and nothing touched it- Goo Gone, Simple Green, even acetone but a Magic eraser seemed to work perfect! Too perfect as I looked down and saw gloss coat and paint on the eraser. Now I have a huge area on my boat with ruined clear coat. Those things are basically soft sandpaper.

Believe it or not, a good carnuba wax will remove paint. Google it and get on it ASAP.

Use WD40 and a soft clean rag. Test a few spots to see if it comes off.

Yeah, I always get a twitch when someone suggests using them. It’s melamine foam and about 2k grit.
