Extended warranty only good at dealer where it was purchased?

I bought an extended warranty but don’t remember reading, or being told by the sales guy (naturally) that it was only good at their location. I’ll read my agreement today but if this is in fact true, can it be transferred to another dealer etc? I’m hopefully moving out of state not too long from now.

 

You’ll be fine at different dealers. As long as you keep your information about your contract with the extended warranty company. They are 3rd party companies typically.

 

I believe it should be good at pretty much any certified place.

 

Hmmm, I think it would depend on the type of extended contract you purchased. If it's from Toyota, other dealers will honor it. If it's from the dealer itself, maybe not.

 

That’s what I thought. The reason I brought it up was bc my wife took her Prius in yesterday for maintenance and for whatever reason, she told me they said her warranty was only good at the dealer she bought from. I didn’t inquire further bc I was in the middle of something. I’ll ask her more about it later...

 

If it is a dealer only warranty, call them and tell them you want to cancel, and receive whatever funds are left, they usually use like a prorated system, so you get some back, depending on how many months left you have.

 

Also if its a aftermarket warranty, some dealers wont honor them as they have to go through another company to get paid. Sometime they will have you pay the bill, then they pay you back.
Aftermarket warranties are a huge pain to deal with, especially on the shop side, just getting paid can be a issue.

 

Not sure what you bought I think you need to call them and see what's up .

 

If it's a genuine Toyota extended warranty you can go to any Toyota Dealer in the country, if it's some 3rd party dealer warranty you might be stuck there

 

i bought a genuine Toyota extended warranty from out of state and it works fine here in hawaii.
