Do it. The 36 factory is miles above the rhythm.

I just replaced my tires with DHF / DHR2 Exo+ casings, a HuckNorris DH rear insert, added a 203 rear rotor, and new sintered pads.
Then I did something I shouldn't have done. I weighed it... 33.5 lbs. With 170/165 travel, 1210 wheelbase, low BB, 65* HA.
Yeah, I was wondering why it was a little slower goin up. lol. Funny thing is, it clears climbs I wasn't able to with shorter travel and lighter rigs. But steep switchbacks require some planning.
I think people blow a lot of that out of proportion. I'm still comfortable putting in 3+ hour rides with 3500 ft of climbing (so far). But then, coming down, all is well with the world.

If you think you *might ever wheel at all or put your truck through any technical areas then yea I would get skids. I dont rock crawl that crazy, but im out alot off-road and besides sliders I would say skids have been my best investment in terms of protection. Most mallers wait till they break something to invest in skids cause it costs a little bit and the gram wont know they are on the ride.

Not bad for a fork man although Im that guy who surfs pink bike whenever I need parts, but I know every fox fork I have tried used felt like ass if its not new so that could be a plan for ya if $800 isnt too bad to swing.

Is that pad/rotor combo better than the Ice-Techs? The trek setup proved sketch on a long downhill (brake fade almost sent me over the edge of the trail for the “Colorado Shortcut”

Megatower is more equivalent to a 29er Nomad.

Yeah man, Camelback beers are the shit. I thought everyone knew about this!

You can also fit a 12oz can in a koozie in your bottle cage if you ever felt the need to do so.

3 weeks isn't a very long time for fabricated parts like sliders and skids. reach out to them and ask for a status, I'm sure they'll let you know whats going on.

This is true...mine took a little over a month and I think they had most of mine in inventory. Sliders from demello that had to be fabbed took about 8 months, but I know that game all too well so no worries.

My friends have and they are phenomenal climbers, but at a nice price tag too. As long as its a relatively recent design I cant see you not loving one.

Haha I do wheel quite a bit, but my truck isn’t built up yet. I have come to terms that my taco won’t be my old 80 series or first gen 4Runner crawler though. :/ still going back and forth on it.

Oh yeah man the reason I’m thinking about it is for the weight savings and moving from a 34 to a 36 and jumping up 10 mm travel. The rhythm is kinda heavy

Oh I totally know the importance of the skids. I had full skids on my dual cased 4Runner and my 80 series and they saved me so much money in repairs in the past. I bought the skids before I even lifted the truck. Unfortunately the Tacoma isn’t doing the same stuff the old trucks did. Timetable for lift and tires is October/November. This will be my first 4x4 on anything smaller than 35s lol

Haha I had never thought of it. We have done the beer in the bottle cage though. Without koozie. We have this thing where you race to get to one side of an out and back before the beer gets warm lol

True that. It was part of a group buy too so I’m sure they weren’t stocked up enough for it

I was looking at a yeti before the YT I bought. Ended up getting the YT and a trek Roscoe for my wife instead of just one bike. Marriage man. Give and take and all that. Lol

ARB fridge in the bed changes the post ride beer game 100%.

We did a savage race with some friends of mine this summer where you start at the bottom of this super steep hill (Puke Hill in PC). On the whistle, you shotgun a beer, and when it's empty, you get on your bike and hustle to the top. When you get to the top, you have to shotgun another. First on to finish their second beer wins. It was far less fun than we thought it would be.

Both I’m looking at are 2018. One is the sb4.5 Turq, the other is the sb5c.
Same. Married with two kids. I’m looking at used. I’m not refinancing my mortgage for a new bike like I’d have to do for a new yeti.

Don’t get me wrong, even a used yeti or evil following are having me go way over my originally intended budget cap.

Unless it's a "forever" bike; buy within your budget and ride the hell out of it. At some point you gotta shit or get off the pot. Bikes come and go but time is a non-renewable resource; you don't get it back.

Not sure exactly which fork you're looking for but they have a Fox 36 Factory 160 boost but reduced offset

I get it... the decision is much more difficult when it's the "one" bike that has to pull all the weight. You've gone through a lot of maybe bikes and my observation is that you want an enduro, to get a little rowdy when descending but to have good manners while climbing and be able to keep up with XC-style riding... correct me if I'm off-base. All that sounds like a 130mm travel with a DW link suspension. whatever you choose will be a compromise somewhere but you have to be really honest with yourself on what you value most in a ride... speed, rowdiness, hucking, etc...

I'll never recommend someone exceed budget... especially on a used bike. Something will ALWAYS come up soon after purchase that needs attention, service, upgrading, etc... Buying a new bike; spend to the limit of your budget that gives the best set of components that will hold their value for the duration. Again; at some point you'll want to upgrade something... then your budget is busted again.
