I come not asking questions, but offering solutions and requesting that you guys either debunk what Im saying, or back up its validity.

So to start this off we know that we should be using top tier gasoline, right? It keeps our engines clean etc.

Walmart's Murphy's gasoline is not top tier, but it is hella cheaper. When I ran OVTune 93 I would fill up at Exxon for $65, and at Murphys for $50. Every tank adds up quick, especially for those of us that fill up 2x a week.

I went back to OVTune 87. When I fill up with 87 my tank of Exxon runs about $45 with about half a quarter tank left. When filling up the same-ish amount on Murphy's my tank runs about $35-37.

Is that $8-10 dollar difference worth getting junk in my trunk (engine, but trunk rimes)? Hell nah it aint.

If only there was a way to use that gas, but not dirty up my engine...hmm...

Well my (someone elses) solution is to use the cheaper gas, and every 2K miles (thats what that person said he does) use an engine cleaner like that lucas or gum out. They add their pown cheaper additive. Thats what I intend on doing from now on, but every once a month instead of 2000miles (shit Ill probably put 1500mi in a month).

    What do you guys think?

They also talk a lot about how top tier is a scam/joke. Kinda like the BBB.

Top tier is not a joke as long as it is what they are saying, like “100% synthetic oil”
Is is part marketing. The trouble is finding true top tier....you are trusting adds and stickers since you can’t lab test at the pump. I use Costco, Safeway/randals/Vons fuel regularly, never an issue.

The best way to find good gas is to run no less than 3 tanks per mfg. record accel, fuel mileage, and noise. Choose the top three just incase you are in an area that does not have your “preferred” fuel.

Used to do this with bikes. Some machines made noise with Chevron, some made more power with shell but got less miles.......

It is a bit of of work, but, if you really want to know then it is no sweat to test em.

Just my experience here. Dumpster fire may start.....be warned

Sea foam works if you do it right and follow directions.

Use it to keep the cylinders on the R1 free.

62k on the same motor and plenty of track time on it. Compression still at 248 per cyl.
    Never rebuilt....

I know that aslong as they give you what they're advertising it aint no scam. Whether there are better ways or not is another topic. My MPGs are 2-3mpg higher with 93 gas than with 87, whether it be from Murphys or Exxon. Unfortunately, there are no longer any Shells around. Those were my preferred gas stations. For now Im going to try the murhphys and my own additive method and see how that works.

Is your rig rated for 93?

    This is another “marketing” thing.

Unless you are running a high comp ratio (over 10 to 1) or a vehicle specifically designed to run only 93 you are making the fat cat oil monkeys very rich and maybe causing future issues with your truck.

Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but the 2GR-FKS compression ratio is something like 11.8 to 1...

I started using 91 octane fuel recently, and it might be a permanent switch. Yes, it costs an extra $7-10 per tank, but it makes a big difference in performance and overall enjoyable driving experience. Premium fuel seems to unlock the ECU's ability to use that 11.8 to 1 ratio more effectively. I fill up maybe once every 2 weeks, so the extra cost is worth it to me and my peace of mind.

11.8 is right at the ok mark.....AS LONG as the program in the vehicle is not set to run lower octane fuel.

Honda has issues with this in the v6 accord...11 or 12 to 1 if memory serves.
It was designed to run on low octane, use of high octane carbon fouled the valves and cylinders bad enough the engine needed to be “refreshed”.....

Don’t know bout the newer engine in the yota
The whole Atkinson ( or whatever it is called) thing might change things up a but...

When you say a big difference in performance, are you talking Paul Walker (pre-dead) or Vin Diesel?

I have OVTune and you can tune your truck to run with 87, 91, or 93. I had it tuned for 87, then 93, and Im back to 87 now.

What made you drop back to 87? I've been running 87 base only, was considering 91 for a road trip in the morning...curious what your experience was.
