Frame from bumper forward- any crumpling or bend?
Also look at the bed- any rainbowing there? Flex or cracking in the bed?
Cab and bed gap- how’s that spacing look?
    Tailgate alignment? Gap/uneven?
This was my experience with rearend that ended up totaled...

How would this increase damage. They have rubber bumpers on them designed to absorb about 20mph which reduces the damage

Yeah, I was just stupidly assuming it was a normal receiver hitch with a metal bar and not specifically engineered for absorbing impact, my bad, see my post above. The website does make it seem very legit.

I would insurance claim it. Don't know what kind of extra damages you would find behind the bumpers and such.

Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
In my industry, I have seen numerous rear end hits on gen 2 and 3 Tacomas. The hit is on the frame-mounted trailer hitch, and it bends the rear most frame tabs down. Many insurance companies will consider this totaled, though the damage is really minor. Take a look at the rear frame tabs. Look for this buckle, or worse. The rear of the truck is to the right in this photo, the rear end hit was directly on the trailer hitch. This truck was considered totaled by insurance, though it cost only $500 to pull those bends out. Someone's loss, my win, and I don't mind a salvage title at the price I got.IMG_6876.jpg

Check the frame between the bed and cab. My truck was totaled out because of the frame damage. This was my truck when it was totaled out...

I’m not sure what the stock third gen bumper/hitch weighs but on second gens a standard rear steel bumper is actually a couple pounds lighter than stock.

I would ask for a new bumper, and get a steel one...

That's what I'm going to try. The insurance she has is pretty shitty from what I can see, debating on just filing a claim thru mine, eat the $500 deductible up front and hopefully they can get me reimbursed for it from her insurance

Seems like it’s always passenger vehicles that like to rear end tacomas. They must have a death wish for their cars.
