I doubt there will be many places where I'm going with cell coverage. AT&T skimps on putting towers where there's less than 5 people in a 500 mile radius. In fact, one of the places I intend to camp is a "Dark Sky Sanctuary" For star gazers and photographers. The nearest man-made light is in Arizona. But I'll check in when I can. I won't be completely alone. I'm taking my bodyguard. :D

Yes. I carry in the woods these days.
    Always have my Walther.
And if I heard of any problems around here, I'd take my Marlin 39A.
    (It's a take down .22 rifle).
Pretty inconvenient to carry anything more potent, but a long gun beats a pistol every time at all but very close range.

There haven't been any reported incidents on this stretch of the AT for a long time.

The Smokey mountain National park is on of the NPs you can carry a gun in. You have to have a carry permit and you have to know where the state lines are. State lines are not always marked on the trails.

My only cameras are on my phone and tablet and a gopro. Trying to figure out how to mount the gopro on a tripod to get some time lapse shots

PA is an open carry state, though I have a concealed carry permit.
The AT runs through state forests almost exclusively.
    And no restrictions there.
    MD is very different, unfortunately.

Nice, I would love to do the same. Place of work does not allow. I work long hours so I won't secure and leave it in the Taco. Don't want it stolen. Need a better one for carry any ways.

    You should.
Hunters get a bad press, no surprise.
City people are stunningly ignorant about the subject.
Most hunters are respectful and law abiding.

Anyway, the land has only so much carrying capacity.
I'm thinking of deer in particular.

I know a thing or two about hunting, particularly small game and ruffed grouse.
Dennis @buckhuntin-tacoma is the deer slayer. :p

*Points if you get the Deer Slayer literary reference. :)

Right on the money. Hunters are typically some of the sharpest, and nicest people too.
