Oh, you're gonna need more truck. You just don't know it until you buy it and realize the benefits of a bigger truck. If your budget can handle it, go Tundra and don't look back.

every one of my friends has nothing but nice things to say mostly 'best truck ive ever had" im getting ready to buy but it would be nice if i could buy when fuel prices get high and the truck market slows.

I suppose that such a topic is not a thread very often because if someone needs something bigger they would just switch it out. I had a regular cab, 4 cylinder, 4x4 Tacoma that I traded in for a Tundra a few years ago. My needs and desires changed so I traded in the Taco and bought the Tundra.

I moved to a Tundra because towing my 5500-6000 loaded up boat and trailer was feeling sketchy in a Tacoma even if it was technically within the specs.

I’m at dealer getting 20k Taco service. Decided to take a gander at the Tundras. Even test drove a couple.

I’m kinda disappointed. They just feel either too basic or too foo-foo-y. I was kinda pumped to jump in the pro but there’s no here’s seats, leather steering wheel, push button start, or Qi charge pad?

Then checked out a Limited 4x4 Off-road. Better on the options list but dressed out in so much chrome. Plus basic creature comforts.

Looks like I’m stuck looking at the GMC AT4s and F-150 Lariats w/sport appearance package again. :(

trucks dont have to be luxury rides. The tundra is more of a true truck than the other brands.

Disagree. It’s less capable and less fuel efficient. Additionally, for the price point, it lags considerably behind the others (except the Titan).

Besides, throwing simple (now basic) features in to make the cabin and features more driver friendly doesn’t make it any less of a truck. To the contrary, by failing to keep up with the competition, they are basically selling a basic truck at a premium price.

But you’re a Toyota fan and don’t want to believe that other brands can make a good truck. So...

Never owned a Toyota but I'm currently looking. But don't fool yourself. Look at the track record of Ford and their recalls, GMC and their quality issues. You are paying for the fact that you can have a higher probability of 200k mile problem free vehicle if you maintain it. Keep focusing on tech options that will seem dated in a year. That push button start is overrated. I currently have one.

100% agree. I am not brand loyal at all but agree with all tech will age. Nothing wrong with any of them they all have there good things . Just which best do you like and for each of us like different things from looks ride and whatever . As far as full size for me it's not about smaller trucks being about same cost but more about the mid size for me being much better to my use and liking

I dont think tech features would ever steer me either way on a vehicle. like earrings on an ugly chick wont make me think the ugly chick is any more appealing. i convinced myself that all vehicles are made well nows a days but after getting a new vehicle that needed a replacment engine due to excessive oil burning ive concluded thats not the case. Some companies are just better than others. Toyota is one of the better ones. But i will say Tacomas are over priced

I've wondered what kind of mileage a Tundra would pull if someone put a taller set of gears in it.

Ya know, like American trucks do.

i think all mid sized are once they discount the half tons like they all do. I also agree that Toyota with my experience have favored better for sure. Not saying that some have issues on rattles and stuff but the Toyota tundras ive had in past which is 4 have not had any

Generally, with higher quality comes a higher price. Tacomas still dominate the mid-size truck segment, so I don't think Tacoma owners are foolish enough to spend more money on a truck than they thought it was worth. The high resale value speaks volumes. In fact, the main reason I bought a Tacoma was to save money in the long run. If I only get 150,000 miles out of my truck, it will be worth every penny I paid.

4.30 gears aren't tall enough for you?

My Tacoma gets 17 at xway speeds with no hills or headwinds. My Tundra 5.7 gets 15 and doesn't care about hills or winds.

Very true, they do dominate the truck segment but ford f150 dominates the full size segment so im not sure that quality or reliability has anything to do with the domination of a segment or what that really means besides lots of people buy them. I think the powertrain options are disappointing in the tacoma lineup and that keeps me out of considering a tacoma. the operating cost, initial cost, are not that much different than a tacoma so saving money on the truck in 150,000 miles isnt an argument against a tundra either. one thing is true you get more truck for your money if you buy a tundra.

I would have considered a Tacoma if they offered the 4.6 liter V-8 (310 hp). I'm not a fan of the Atkinson cycle engine in the Taco so went with the 2018 Tundra and 381 hp. It rocks.
