Hey guys I’ve searched and searched to find a rock slider that would work well as a side step. My wife is 5 3 and struggles to get in... (I can only imagine how it will be after I get a lift) I really like the style of the predator steps but I figure If I’m going to spend that amount of money I might as well get something that will protect my taco. So besides RCI and CBI what are some good sliders that are good steps as well? Any input would help pics too! Thanks guys/and gals

    Sliders make poor steps, imo.

    Steps and rocks don't mix.

    Choose wisely.

I recall seeing a bolt on step set up that could be added to a functional rock slider and easily removed when doing off road things. I recall seeing a pic or video of a taco jacking it up on the step to show how secure it was. I was going to check into it more for the same reason as you, but i can not seem to find the thread now. Waitng on suspension to get delivered to install so I am trying to think ahead a little as I'm shopping for sliders

My wife is 4’11” and gets in fine with the sliders and a 3” lift. I’m failing to see the problem here.

Your wife uses your truck as a jungle Jim. I’m 5’8” and with a hip replacement I struggle. I actually prefer my 4Runner instead, but it’s not lifted yet.

I'm so sad that one seems to be able to help you with this question. I guess that the bottom line is: Good sliders may not make the best steps and good steps may not make the best sliders...

Smittybuilt (IIRC) used to make a step bar called a "double tube bend" that was a nerf bar but it had a dog leg under the front door that dropped it down and out about 3" both ways. I had a set on my 86' Xtra cab and have a set on my 99 Ram 2500. I would LOVE to find a set for my 16' Taco but either they don't make them anymore or my google foo sux. The wife loved them too because it was the only way she could get in the RAM.

    Cheers,

    Doc

Shit, I wish you were closer to Maine! I have a pair of Predators that I’m trying to offload!! They’re a great step, but I wanted a bit more protection.

I have a pair of 0 degree sliders from Cali Raised that work great as a step.

I’m not stoked about the customer service I received, and I’m suuuuper unimpressed about the rust that’s already showing up in spots after 7 months…….. so, like, maybe skip them.

But!! My point is that I’m 5’3-5’4 and have no trouble jumping in and out with the aid of the slider. The rear kickout is also great for my pup (and probably kiddos, too). I’m real happy with this particular style.

(Photo is just stock— from their website because it’s too dark out to grab a good pic of mine.)

Take a look at 4XInnovations, with the step plates. They make bolt on and weld on. I can tell you the bolt ons are bomb proof. My 5'3" wife now has a little something to step on and stopped complaining after about two weeks. Slider.jpg

    Like, so many.
A zero degree slider might work.
