I recently purchased a new 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport 2WD and noticed a small box with a button on it screwed to the dash between the hood release and the TPMS set button. I looked through the owners manual as well as photos online and was not able to to find anything like it. The wires coming out of it wrap around the hood release cable and get lost when it is bundled with some other wires with electrical tape under the dash. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

It was installed by the dealership. Didn't come from Toyota. Usually it's an alarm.

If it is a new 19, ask the dealer to see what you got. :)

I'm sorry but why did you except something like this on a brand new truck. That just looks like ass, make them pull that crap out and replace your bottom dash part of the dash. That's just completely unacceptable. Your not going to find anything in the owner's manual, come on you could not tell it was aftermarket.

My 2019 had an alarm setup on it (looks the same) but not as atrocious placement. At least it made a difference on my insurance premium so there's that.

First of all, no one from the dealer just sends home a couple screws through a brand new dash. Clearly it is aftermarket and installed by a 3rd party. Maybe AT the dealer but not by someone who works there.

You’ll shed some tears when you see the mess they made on your factory wiring harnesses.

This is a fact. I found a birds nest of spliced wires when installing my ditch light switch... was not happy to say the least.

Op, I’d request a new lower panel too because of the screw holes. That’s some shoddy work

Good idea- I’ll be doing that on my next visit. I had the 2n1 led fogs on my truck new and it’s a nice kit but when I upgraded and removed it there were 2 t taps that cut a couple strands at least in each spot. Just put liquid tape over them for now but I planned on a solder fix

That’s true but it also adds bulk. Personally I’d rather do it the old fashion way

I am fucking pissed they installed this in my new truck too. I specifically said I didn't want this shit installed and it was anyway, unfortunately the trim i wanted was in low supply and the truck was traded with another dealership 60miles+ away when I bought it and didn't have much choice so I just let it go. And yeah, my blood boiled when I saw the hack job they did to the factory harness, fucking unreal they chop up a $2000 OEM part to try to trick people into paying a monthly fee for a pointless alarm.

Any leads or directions on how to remove these? I've been waffling on taking it back to the dealership and having them remove it or trying to find instructions and remove it myself.

If you have the same one I have its a "Rockwell security alarm", you probably have stickers on your front door windows with "Rockwell" in it.

Don't they already have some kind of alarm from the factory? If not what's that flashing red light on the dash?

Ah, I've been wondering if any wires were cut and rerouted. Apparently it's supposed to be able to cut out the engine so it can't start under specific circumstances. Probably would be a good idea to get the drawings off TIS if I try to do it myself incase it's more than just removing the Ttaps.
