My son's recently bought an 06 Prerunner. We verified that it is an SR5 Prerunner by checking the VIN with Toyota. The rear emblems only has V6 on the passenger side of the tailgate. I've seen a few others like that that appeared to be Prerunner's, but nearly all have "Prerunner" "V6" and "SR5" on the passenger side of the tailgate (when appropriate).

Did Toyota reduce the rear badges on these vehicles for certain model years?

On a side note, I noticed the one in the photo attached below. I didn't realize that you could have a 4WD Prerunner (o_O)

Back to my original question. What should the rear badging on his 06 SR5 Prerunner V6 be?

I've seen a few others like that that appeared to be Prerunner's, but nearly all have "Prerunner" "V6" and maybe "SR5" on the passenger side of the tailgate (when appropriate).

If I’m not mistaken, all prerunners come with the badge. Most likely, the previous owner de-badged the emblem from the tailgate. Some people (as myself) think these trucks come with too many badges. If you’re wanting an emblem, I still have my old prerunner badge that’ll I’ll ship to you on your own dime.

Thanks for the offer. My son ordered a new set of matte black emblems for the whole truck. I just thought it would be a little douche baggy to put them on the truck if they weren't supposed to be there.

Mine is a SR5 4x4, and it has emblems for “V6 SR5” only. I’ve had it since new, and from what I remember back when truck shopping that all prerunners had the additional tailgate emblem. 4x4’s deleted the word “PreRunner”.

Thanks for the response. It is an 06, I presume.

I'm not sure, maybe your truck doesn't have the SR5 package?

I'm by no means an expert I'm just going off what I've noticed. This 2015 Prerunner seems to have both?

Ah, I'm an idiot. It's trim level. Base SR5 tacomas will have that emblem, but if the truck has a sport or offroad package, I bet that emblem won't be there. Best guess based on that link you sent anyways haha

Haha nah you're good! I'm still not sure exactly what they did, but to throw a bigger loop into it I've got a 2010 Sport and it came with both the V6 and SR5 emblems...
