Was driving along not too fast, approx. 40mph, on nice paved road and truck just died.
Fortunately, I was able to restart right away and continued on, which was good as I then had to go through a forest road in MT about 20 miles and it ran well...

Stopped at store (about 40 miles after the first incident) for 5 minutes. Came out it started, went about 50 yards then just died again. Cranked, but wouldn't start.

Currently has 110k miles... got it towed to a local dealer (I know that it will hurt)… anybody got any clues?

    TIA

So many options. Fuel pump dying? Maybe pumps enough fuel in to start but not run long. I can think of many others but id look at that. But I'm also not a mechanic.

Well I'll keep people posted as I find out...
Yesterday I was working on doing the fog lights anytime, but did not actually do as I needed some additional parts. Which is what I stopped at store for... I did take out one of the relays in the other box and put back in... since it was running well for 50 miles before the first incident I can't think that had anything to do with it...

Hopefully, it won't be too expensive...

Got the call today... seems its the truck "motherboard" developed intermittent communication issues.
I am scheduled to pick up tomorrow $1,700 poorer.

Sounds like you main PCM was on the fritz. It's a rare occurance but has happened. I'm glad you got it resolved but $1700? Sweet jesus man. That's way too much money for a PCM replacement and reprogram!

These Toyota computers run for like $1200 a pop, which is stupid if you ask me as far as pricing goes.

Were you not within the 8 years/ 80,000 mile federal emission warranty? The computer drives all of the present emissions systems on the vehicle. If your computer is failing then so are all of the emissions controls which could be a strong ground for a call to corporate to get all of your money back if you already paid for it.
