Even if this is true now, shifting energy usage to electricity allows for the simultaneous improvement of the electric grid in a manner detached from advancements in vehicle technology. So it will only get better.

Base price I saw on Jalopnik had it around $70,000 MSRP. Definitely not for the average person, at least at this point in time.

Yes, the Rivian website lists the truck as starting at $70K. I am sure if you want the long range battery and other options you are probably in the $100K range. Too rich for me, but I think the prices will come down as more manufacturers enter the market.

It's like anything else that is new. Give it 10-20 years, the price will be much better.

GM wanted to much, FORD worked with them. Smart move!

I'd almost consider having one if I had a spare $80,000 lying around...

Looks like a lot of great features. I too will purchase one as soon as I find $80K. All jokes aside, I think they are making a strong entrance to the market.

Honestly, after watching that... I'd like to see a cab-over style version without the front trunk or whatever it is that they're calling it.

It is probably really hard to get a passenger vehicle to pass crash tests with a cab over style. It seems like most modern crash test require crumple zones etc. in front of the driver. It would be interesting to see a design that could meet those requirements though.

It looked pretty cool, spoke with one of the engineers that was there for quite a bit and seems like they have crazy amount of development going on.

Get out of here with that non-sense. Emissions at a central location can be better dealt with than 20 million cars running independently.

I don't think people are being honest with themselves. You will think the air wouldn't be cleaner in our cities if everyone used electric vehicles?

I really don't see the advantage of a Gas vehicle over an electric vehicle anymore at least for daily use.

    needs moar sidewall

edit: On a serious note, though, I feel like the storage door behind the rear doors is totally in the way dropping down like that.

Everytime you transfer energy you get loss. Therefore to produce as much energy as a combustion engine, you're generating more pollution to combat the loss after transferring the electricity from a plant, across lines, to a charge station, and into your vehicle.

Quad motors allow for "tank turn" capability. Another interesting feature Rivian is building into their truck and SUV.
