So if I go to any retailer and buy an assembled AR15 do I still have to pay that $200 tax? Sorry this is all new to me, the last time I bought a gun from a store was a .223 from Academy took less than half an hour lol

 

Depends on if you have an explosive license and your local zoning laws, but maybe... long as you stay under 50lbs explosives weight and you have the license and zoning allows The ATF can allow a portable.magazone In a garage

Last AR I acquired was sheer luck.

 

Buying an ar15 is like buying any other gun. Fill out 4473, pay for it and pass background check. Done.

 

Doesn’t seem that easy online. It’s making me send the stuff to a local retailer. Maybe I’ll just buy an assembled one locally, but building it did sound fun

 

To order a firearm online you have to ship it to an FFL (they usually charge a fee, and you’ll have to eat the shipping cost). The FFL will do the paperwork and background check when you go pick up the firearm.

 

Nope, only NFA items have the stamp. What your looking at is fine.

If your looking at a rifle in the shortest possible.length a 14" barrel with permanent flash hider to.reach the 16" mark.

Or keep with a a pistol, and do not put a stock on it unless you file a form 1 But with the sig brace, and the current opinion of ATF there is no need to ever add a stock.

 

That's if you're purchasing a firearm online. You purchase it, send it to an FFL (gun store), pay the store's transfer fee (depending on store, $20-100), Fill out a 4473, pass your background check and take possession of your new gun. On an ar15, the only part that counts as a firearm is the stripped lower receiver, so most guys get parts kits and buy a stripped lower locally.

 

It is only the stripped lower that has to go to a dealer. If you are wanting to assemble one.

I used Austin gun liquidators in round rock for my transfers. Just let the online retailer know they are the transfer dealer and to request there ffl , and a I give a courtesy call to AGL to let them know to expect a shipment in my name.

They will notify you when it arrives, show up fill out the 4473 they will do the .background check call and you walk out with with a new project

 

That's the way to do it.
