    Hey All,

Love your community and looking forward to getting to know it better. I am sad to leave the jeep world, but anxious to pick up my new Tacoma.

This truck will be about 70% work, 30% play. Typically hauling bang-bangers to the range on the weekends, tools, packages, steel plates during the work week. As far as honey-do projects, i'll probably end up using my dump trailer for anything serious.

I am looking to outfit the truck right away, getting it done in one fell swoop rather than piece it together and hoping i can get some feedback on the following:

Option 1: Truck Vault 2drawer offset w/ Diamondback Cover
Option 2: Bedslide with a 'Gatortrax' type cover.

    - Any reports on these retractable covers? First priority is security, second is weather resistance.
    - As far as the slides go, is their any appreciable difference between bed-slide and cargo glide?
    - My concern with the truckvault is eating up to much depth in the bed, and having shallow unusable storage above it.

Is the diamondback cover to restrictive on the short beds? Are they weather-tight?

    Welcome!
    Let's see them powpows!
Sorry, I don't have any input on your specific covers. I don't think the hard ones are secure either, so I went with a soft cover, as I don't leave guns, range, or hunting gear in the truck. I also wanted something light an quick to remove, for the frequent times I want the hole bed open.

My diamondback cover is not completely weather tight, and I also get water around the seams of the composite bed. I could make the diamond back weather tight from the top, but it would be too tight to easily close the front section. I need to do a little modification to it. All that said, I'd still choose it over a roll top.

I have a Rugged Cover II. It's not as easy to operate as the one from Toyota, but it's much less expensive and it's been water proof (or very nearly so) and I keep stuff my bed all the time. And it's pretty easy to take off if you need the whole bed.

    Welcome to TW, OP!

Here's a thread that may help in your Diamondback research: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diamondback-modification-thread.553966/

And another about spending the $ on DB covers - I did a write-up overview on mine, post #11: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/is-diamondback-se-worth-the-pricetag.604207/

I'm biased, but believe the cover is worth it, especially if you plan on keeping the truck for many years. I've used it for secure storage and for hauling pallets/larger items on top. Regarding if it's weather-tight, the bed itself has slots/holes in it for drainage; these would need to be sealed for better weather resistance. That said, the cover has stood up to downpours/snow/ice/mud without issue, with minimal water entering the bed (usually towards the cab, if any).

Only con so far has been the weather stripping freezing to the bed after sleet/freezing rain, preventing access. Other than that, it's been great for my uses.

I believe that’s the same one I have. It’s a fantastic tri fold. Keeps my hunting and fishing gear very dry. Highly recommend the cover. The under mount lights a are nice touch when gettin ready in the early morning or later evenings after hunting and fishing.

Yep, the lights are nice touch. The only issue I've had is keeping the back screws on tight. I just tighten them periodically.
