Thanks for the input. I am thinking I will go through with it and take it easy even if I haven't reached 500 miles by the time I am trailering

Have done some searching but not really finding a consensus (perhaps there isn't one?). I will be towing a trailer for the first time with my '17 Taco this weekend. I have Cooper AT3 4S on the truck right now, and I run them about 32 cold, which depending on temperature swings through the day will run 35-36 warm depending on temp swings.

I'll be pulling a 3200lb trailer with a 300 lb tongue weight. Loaded, the trailer will be about 3500-3600lbs. How much, if any, air should I add to my tires? :)

How large tires are you using? Maybe just 33-35PSI. The pressures will increase as you start driving. Also how large and heavy are your tires. If they are larger and significantly heavier than 30.5" OEM size. You may have to adjust what gear and speed you are towing in because your final drive ratio maybe higher than factory. Heavier tires I'll also add to your GVWR

I'm stock tire size, slightly heavier than stock but only by 5lbs or so. I'll air them up a PSI or 2 for good measure

Mine only has about half of those fuses mentioned. The main ones I'm missing are the TOWING BRK and BATT CHG. And I only have a 4 pin connector on my factory hitch. I have an 06 DCLB Sport with auto trans.

Would this work to convert to a 7 pin along with a brake controller I assume?

Sorry if this has been asked before already. I tried looking for a few pages in this thread before giving up.

    Hey Fellas

Ima newbie to this site and to towing. I need some advice. I want to tow a small, lightweight trailer; morris mule; with my little 2wd first gen. I would like some suggestions on the best place to attach the safety chains on the pickup. It doesn't seem like there is a good place.

So is there anybody out there towing with a mounting ball attached directly to platform on step bumper and if so, where are you attaching your safety chains on the pickup.

    Thank you,
Matt with a Tacoma in Tacoma

Huge thanks for this! We just bought our first travel trailer (18' Springdale Rugged Terrain) and super stoked! While I have towed construction equipment and various trailers in my life, this will be a bit new to me until I get it and the 2013 dclb dialed in.

Lots of reading to do on this thread. Much appreciated for your endless knowledge on it. Cheers!

This is a great thread. Thanks to all who've posted their knowledge to help the rest of us. Hard to believe this thread is 11 1/2 years old and still active!

My question concerns brake controller mounting in a 2006 double cab. I'm considering a proportional controller since it seems they provide better control. Are there any suggestions on a mounting location that makes the manual control reasonably accessible?

Hi! I'm so glad I found this post. I know this was originally posted in '07 and continuing, and I glanced through all responses that I could. So if I missed something, please forgive me. I have a '13 Tacoma 4x2 v6 with the towing package, and I'm looking into a hitch mounted dirt bike hauler. I've read through my owners manual and scoured the internet, but I cannot find the tongue weight max. My biggest bike is 300lbs wet. Please help!

Not 100% sure for the 4x2, but I believe mine is 650# for a 4x4

Your max tongue weight will be 10% of your truck’s max tow weight. So if your truck is rated to tow 6400#, your tongue weight will be 640#.

If you don’t know your tow rating or can’t find out assume 3500#, tongue weight 350#.

    2015 4L V6 4WD w/ tow package, pulling a 2018 Winnie 21' 2016 (dry weight 3700). Added a Tru Cool 4454 trans cooler due to mountain trip this summer.

Did some empty parking lot backing practice today- warm day- mid 80s. TC temp briefly got up as high as 217 (trans temp 10-15 degrees cooler) when not moving for a while on the hot blacktop. Most of the time in the 180-200 range. Out on the highway in 4th gear on the level it stayed around 175- climbing maybe 10-15 degrees on hills. The Torque Pro PID is pretty responsive- I'd almost like it a little "dumber" and get like a 15 or 30 second running average.

Normal? I'm assuming that if the TC temp gets up that warm that it's just as bad for the transmission fluid as the trans temp? Heat is heat.

Any way to check if your truck is equipped with the tow package?

    To many, but never done
Tranny cooler is on the driver side in front of the radiator.
    On a second gen anyway.
