Hey everyone. Some of you my have seen my "newbie" post lol. If you haven't, I am brand new to tacomas, lifting, and off roading. Looking to learn as much as possible. I have to be a bit honest, it's a bit overwhelming to see the amount of options I have for lifting my truck lol. One of my local shops has quoted me $869 for a 3" lift which includes the following

Bilstein 5100 adjustable struts up front with a 1/2" billet top spacer, dif drop and rear block kit. How would that lift handle off roading? I don't plan on doing any sort of rock climbing or nothing super hard core. Thanks for all your help.

If you guys would be kind enough to make some suggestions as well. I will be using my tacoma mostly as a daily driver with the occasional weekend trip to the trails :)

Block lifts suck, IMO. at least get an add-a-leaf. I am also adverse to front spacers as well. The 5100s are great shocks though.

If you are really on a budget, get the 5100s and a rear add-a-leaf. Set the fronts on the highest clip. That will increase the spring rate and make them a little stiffer, however. Usually not that bad though. Or, for another ~$170 get some OME coils, and leave the 5100s on the bottom clip (let the spring do the lifting).

Diff drops are never a bad idea (almost universally required for 1st gens, and there seems to be "debate" in if they're required for 2nd/3rd gens). I say do it, it literally can only make your CV angle better, which is never a bad thing.

You may need an extended rear brake line.

Pretty much all of this is pretty simple DIY stuff. You can save a lot of coin and do it yourself. There are several threads/video/builds on this site and others that can walk you through it. If you've turned a wrench before, you can do it. Just need basic shop tools, floor jack and some jack stands.

I agree the skip the block and use an add a leaf. Also be sure to retorque your u bolts after driving it, I usually check them a few times the first couple hundred miles.

3" toytech add a leaf lift 285/75R16 BFG mud terrain t/a km2 tires trd wheels with 2"wheel spacers 12,000 pound winch US off-road bumper Flowmaster 2 1/2 inch exhaust K&N intake Full led conversion JDM chip
I have a 2010 with a 3” lift and I got my lift from toytec it’s a add a leaf in the rear and lift springs in the front no diff drop not needed have been running that way for 5 years and no issues and I have been down class 4-5 roads and is my daily install the lift myself and paid 300 for the lift
Toytec is by far the best place to get what u want/need they only deal with Toyota so no retro fitting

And the 5100 r meant to do all the lifting no blocks or spacers or else they can only be on the lowest setting and in that point what’s the point I run the 4600 and the work great
