Thanks for that suggestion. I looked at them last night and was impressed with the specs. I am looking at local dealers online for 4-Runners as we speak. I would use a bed cap or camper shell most of the time with a roof rack, the 4runner already has that option. I have become very very interested in this idea. Thanks again.

Join up at 4runners.com the sister site to Tacoma world. Lots of good information there.

I have not joined yet but found that sight around 3am this morning. LOL Yes a lot of good information there plus some photos showing me some options and it in action off road. I had a 1977 many years ago that put over 400,000 miles on it. I bought it used from a friend with 277K on the odometer. That thing was a steel tank. LOL

Only thing I don't like is the gas mileage isn't great. I live 5 miles from work so it doesn't affect me that much. Getting a lifted model probably didn't help.

2017 TRD Off Road with King Coil Overs in front with Deaver leafs and OME shocks in the rear. 275/70/17 tires
I just joined as well and have found a ton of good info on here. I have a 2017 TRD Off Road and love it. It has gotten me anywhere I have wanted to go and is a great truck. There are plus and minuses to both but I don't think you can go wrong with the Tacoma or the 4Runner. Keep in mind that the 4Runner has been in 5th gen since 2010. That said if you are going the 4Runner route you may want to wait until 6th gen just to see the differences. The aftermarket for either one is excellent!

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road and waiting for the 6th gen 4Runner to trade in. Realized I didn't need the bed as much as I thought I would. So far I've used it to haul lumber and on snowboarding trips but most of the time it's been useless. Not looking forward to taking the financial loss but ah well..

That is my predicament. Living here in a rural area I need a truck bed at least annually to haul landscaping for home, Lowe's or Home Depot runs for any house repairs (old house), etc. Once I move to AZ, I'll have a rock yard, newer house and less needs for a bed. So I have almost decided to buy the 2019 4Runner and those days I need a bed I'll rent a utility trailer or a small trailer depending what I am hauling.

I am test driving both this coming Saturday before I make a decision.

In 10-14 days I will lift the basset hound into 'passenger seat' and the bloodhound in the backseat in either vehicle. The movers will have my stuff delivered by the time I get to my new residence EXCEPT my 1 mountain bike and my 2 racing road bikes and the iMac.

So enough cargo space for the computer, 55" tv in the 4Runner with the back seats up? Or play it safe and buy the Tacoma and live with that once I get to AZ? I have researched both a lot, read comments to my questions and looked at photos from members here. As of right now this minute, I STILL cannot make up my mind.

If I had to do it again... I would go with the 4Runner. It's slightly more expensive, gas mileage a is worse, and the tech inside is outdated but if you don't care about that, then I'd DEFINITELY go with the 4Runner. You'll have more than enough space with the back seats down plus it's a smoother ride and more comfortable overall too. Trucks do have a 'cool' factor I guess but 4Runners can be done up really well too. More than 2 people in a truck sucks. Not sure if you do a lot of road tripping but that's another thing to consider. Lemme know how your test driving goes!

    I'm in AZ btw!

I moved from a condo in Los Angeles to a house with a landscaped yard in Washington State. If you think you won’t need a truck bed anymore...think again... :)

    Good luck in your shopping.

Isn't it interesting how they put different features in different trims and models, nothing has everything. LOL I've had a few other say to go with the 4Runner. I will be doing some road tripping since I have lived in SoCal for many years ago, NW of Seattle and have tent camped in Utah, Colorado, NM. I have calculated that with the seats down there is only 24 cubic feet less than a Tacoma SB. I know my bloodhound and camping equipment fit comfortably in an FG cargo space with the seats down and that had less than the 4Runner.

I'm looking forward to AZ. I have a nice view from my backyard that I am looking forward to.

LOL ... you mean your Washington State yard wasn't just pine needles. I had one of those on Whidbey Island when living there. That is what I keep thinking, I'll buy a 4Runner and then the times I need a truck will jump out of the woodwork in numbers. I am very good friends with Murphy's Law. Hey ... it's one of the nicer decisions to have to make.
