I have been tagged for my expertise in certain fields. If you would like to discuss hairless animals or ballistic fragmentation ranges I could maybe help, and that’s a hard maybe. But audio/visual starts and ends with “Bluetooth connected” and “turn it as loud as it will go, that will do just fine”. Until the third gen, my a/v tech in the 01 tacoma consisted of a tape adapter. The cable would get pinched over the course of a year or so, and I would be back in Walmart buying a 5$ tape adapter. I’ve replaced more tape adapters than millennials have gone through IOS Updates. Some people would say, “stun gun, why don’t you just buy a new head unit and amps with mosfets and sub ohm crossovers?” I would reply-

“Because I only give a fuck about suspension. Get out of my truck, nerd”

To add to this, if OP doesn't know about JL Audio at this point, then he deserves to buy a Walmart radio, speakers and amp.

I don't care about audio much, though I have replaced my fair share of factory radios with $99 Walmart units. I am not even the least inclined to do the Subaru tweeter mod.

I only know about JL audio from my hippy, motorcycle gang FIL.

I am beyond pleased with my JL system. It sounds much better than some of the other systems I’ve heard such as Infinity, Rockford, and Alpine.

The sub is amazing as well as the amps. My door speakers provide amazing clarity and mids at high volumes.

You will not be disappointed by JL.

JL Audio is to car audio as Kings is to suspension.

If you want the best, you will pay for it, but you wont regret it either.

i am enjoying mine as well. they sound way better than whatever the cheap stock speakers were.

next, im looking to get a sub to provide some more low end. when i crank the new setup, i can tell its hard on the 6x9s on the doors.

I have the JL 10TW3 and I absolutely love it. Shallow mount is perfect for behind the rear seats and hits very hard.

JL Audio is the best American design car audio manufacturer - if you don't want to spend time researching who has the best price/performance ratio and if you don't want to spend time auditioning different speakers. So if you spend $1000 on one of their 1000W x1 sub amps, its going to last as long as you own it (as long as your not undervolting and having it mounted on a sub box or other abuse) and you'll probably be happy with its power output performance. Or if you say you want to spend $300 on a component set - you'll probably be happy with their C3 line. If you have $500 to spend on a component set, you'll probably be happy with their C5 line. And so on.

Also, their amps are original, modern designs, just like most of Alpine, Kicker, and RF - that's why they are expensive compared to the $200 Amazon specials which output 1500+ watts x 1.

Their only con is their prices for performance and quality you get compared to other manufacturers - but you save a lot of time in terms of trying out the equipment then returning it and trying out other equipment. If you are trying to build an overall budget system, its worth looking to others for a better value.

I like JL because they have a really balanced sound and a lot of definition. This is something you won't realize you will miss until you get speakers that are geared differently than your factory paper ones. Factory paper ones will play all types of music balanced and "okay" at best. Then once you switch to a aftermarket set you may find that all of a sudden some genres just don't sound good no matter how much you adjust your EQ. I had this exact problem with the Kicker K series speakers. While they are probably great for some folks, I listen to all types of music and they really don't do any justice for genres other than hip hop etc. I honestly preferred the sound of my papers for the other music because at least I could hear the intricacies of the songs. JL c1's were in my ranger and it really just overall improves the sound and power of the music without changing much except for me I began hearing notes in songs I hadn't previously known existed. Now I can't go back because if I listen to music in other systems I just find it lacking. JL ruined me.
