i have a basic standard hood prop, had oil/filter change done at dealer recently with coupin, was needing to get the mechanic working on my chit opinion about what the heck is up with my A/C gremlin so I was escorted out to the bay.
now I am not sure if its good practice or not to raise and lower your truck with the hood open all the way up, I am sure some of you reading this might have the gas hood struts/props? I do not, just the 22yr old Toyota prop, but the mechanic was in the middle of finishing the oil change and was watching my trucks hood bouncing all around on that old prop while lift was going up.

are the hoods supposed to be open and all the way up while going up on the lift whether you have standard hood prop or gas struts?

I'm pretty sure there is no spec on vertical mile speed with hood open. I assume your question is a joke or a least play it off as one now.

I've seen that too and always wondered. Funny, related story of somebody's stupidity (I'm not gonna name any names.........but it was me). Before I got gas struts, I had my hood up for some reason, probably an oil change, and I guess I had a flashback to my last truck that DID have gas struts, and so I just reached up, grabbed the hood and pulled it down.........well part of the way. Worst part was, I had to rest the hood on my head to try to straighten out the prop....ya know cause the prop was all fuc.........well ya know :) . Never did get it 100% straight, but it worked for the couple months it needed to until I got the redlines.

EDIT: I just noticed I was post #666...................AWESOME!! I don't have enough going against me :p

no it was definitely seeming to bounce around on the way up, like the lift was going up erratically and not smooth, also on way back down i think
I am sure Toyota makes very good hood props for decades now but can they only take so much abuse like the vibrations I was witnessing.
My hood has recently been refinished and looks brand new (more or less) I would hate for this prop to one day break on me while I am under there wiping chit down
its probably a damned discontinued part by now

I would use some fairy dust to neutralize that, seems to work on my truck so far so good :p

Relax, you are trying too hard. If you want to make a Friday dumpster fire thread start a new one, don't F up one that is decent. And don't make it so obvious.

my apologies, its not my intention to start any dumpster fires, was just looking for some honest input on a personal situational experience regarding my property

Sorry, it just came across that way.
So, if you are concerned about their practices at that dealer, you should bring it up with the service manager or find a different dealer, but my guess is that, most all will raise or lower a vehicle with the hood propped up.

thanks, this was at a newly located/redesigned dealer that now has better observation windows, unless they hide your truck behind the other section of the garage
if they have been doing this practice for 300+ times over 22yrs then they must know my hood prop will not bend or break on the lift (i just wasn't sure)
