I was not sure if this is appropriate section for this quandary I have but it is quasi-detail related
... will post some pics when I am able to for illustration

I have scoured through a good number of pics of everybody's engine compartments on here and have not seen anybody have what I used to have protecting my engine compartment from water overspray and/or random nature droppings from trees, etc.

for 22yrs my engine compartment has been relatively clean other than the dust and dirt that gets sucked up from underneath due to the weather stripping on my rails that were dealer installed when I got my truck. Had to have some work done on the hood to repair a chip and I noticed a week later my strips were missing  because I could see the back glare of the headlights while standing by my mirror. I inquired with the last place that had my hood open and they had absolutely no clue what I was talking about, there were no pics of the engine compartment before I dropped it off for repair. As this was a dealer add-on item there is no OEM parts on any diagram anywhere. They told me 'Oh that is just dirt on there' but I think it is adhesive residue left from the tape and 2 decades worth of dust'n'dirt settling that is caked on the edge as I would never let my rails get this shoddy looking

With the frequent touchless washes I have been doing every other day this winter there is enormous amount of overspray slop and pooled up water on my battery tray that is bugging the krap out me :(

I wanted to provide the shop I think are responsible for the missing items with pictures of what it should look like but cannot seem to find any. No trucks as old as mine on the roads here as far as I know with relative extensive inquiries from my insurance company and the dealer where I bot it ... they must all be in guatemala or wherever they disappeared to I dunno

I believe that this item (or similar) is what was on there before but I have always taken for granted it was there over 2 decades so I can't say for certain

perhaps somebody here might have something similar under their hood and can post a pic

... was on a chat with 3M specialist and they said they no longer make any weather stripping

this product above is not 3M apparently and is way too small to be useful for what I need
    :help:

a picture of my 'naked' rails
with the leftover adhesive residue from the weather strips (+ 2 decades of compacted dirt in the crevice cleaned up slightly but adhesive I need to find another product to remove before re-installation when said strips are located)
