Hey guys and gals. I live in Hawaii on Oahu and I have a 2010 sport DCSB RWD. I am in the military and am possibly going to get orders in my home state of AZ. I would really like to sell my 2nd gen and buy a 3rd gen off-road 4x4. The thing is I don’t know really if there is any difference between 2017-2019. Since it is going to be a truck I’m going to have for a really long time I want to get leather seats and possibly a moonroof. I would also really like to get into trails and off roaming while I’m back home. Any ways I’d like to know what you guys think. Should I wait for the 2020 to come out and then get a 2018 so it will be a little cheaper? I don’t know.

I'm a firm believer that unless you've got twenty in or plan to pay for it in cash that last thing anyone should do in the military is buy a new vehicle.

The more I think about it. I don’t really care about the leather seats and moonroof.

I was not too crazy about the idea of a sunroof at first, but it is a really nice feature, open it and the rear window as often as I can.

Don’t second guess it, if that’s what you want get it. You don’t want to regret it if you plan on long term ownership.
When it comes to the third gen I would get the newest model year you can afford. There has been some small tweaks throughout the years. If power drivers seat is something your interested in wait until 2020.

Looking at the packages it doesn’t seem work it anymore. Right now I could get a 2019 with the tech package with no moonroof and leather seats and it’s 3k cheaper. Also I want to put a roof rack on eventually

Toyota's "build" isn't really build.... It really just searches the area inventory.

IMO, there isn't much difference between 2016 and 2019. There is the safety sense or whatever it's called and color availability. The only turn on for me with waiting would be to get a green truck.

I like the leather seats in the Limited, but they'd just get seat covers anyways. I agree on a roof rack.... Might even want to spring for a camper shell with windoors and a rack.

I avoided leather seats and moonroof, I’m only 5’10 and found the sunroof kind of stuck down on the interior roof and was annoying and just not really a fan of leather, looks awesome, feels awesome, way easier to clean, but so uncomfortable compared to cloth in my opinion. Also 2018+ your gonna have the TSS which is nice for the smart cruise and whatnot but also maybe a little bit of an extra pain if your swapping the grill and lifting/tires while still under warranty. It sounds like 2020 there is gonna be a few bigger upgrades so maybe wait for them to come and see if that’s what you want, and if not you’ll probably find a better deal on a leftover 19’.

never served but I imagine it'd be a pain in the ass to get redeployed and have to either ship it over or sell it in a pinch.

I love the sunroof, (I’m 6-1 and have no issues,) leather is not a high quality but still better than the cloth IMO. Heated seats were also of importance to me living in the Midwest. Not a big difference between 2016-2019, I would go with whatever you can find the best deal on. I do like 2017+ have the automatic rear glass. I have no issues with TSS with factory Pro Grill. I did buy all OEM components, however.

Also, thank you for your service!!
