I've been toying with the idea of adding a rear sway bar to my Tacoma (2014 access cab, 4 cylinder manual). The options seem to be either the Hellwig package, or use the X-Runner sway bar with the SOS Performance hardware. Has anyone compared these 2 options and come away with a strong preference for one over the other? While looking online for the X-Runner sway bar, it looks like most of the hardware is available as stock Toyota parts (e.g., https://parts.manhattanbeachtoyota....ear-suspension--stabilizer-bar-and-components )

Has anyone added a rear sway bar to a 5 lug Tacoma using just OEM Tacoma parts?

My truck isn't driven off road, just for street driving or sometimes on unpaved surfaces

Adding a rear sway bar without doing anything else will make the rear loose around turns and possibly dangerous also.

I put the SOS/X-Runner bar on my TRD Sport and like it a lot. Easy to install, improves stiffness. I'm considering an upgraded front bar now as well.

I don't off-road my truck much, so suspension travel is a non- issue for me.

    Yes...
Just ask any circle track racer what adjustment to make for a tight car (won't turn).
I also like to add that a softer suspension has more grip over bumps. A stiffer suspension gives better response so it may feel better, but not always the quickest way around a turn. To the OP, I would spend my money better shocks on all 4 corners and forgot about the sway bar.

Correct. But also keep in mind that when the factory adds a rear sway bar they also adjust the front sway bar or/and springs to maintain a more neutral balance. All vehicles manufacture are set up to be "tight". A tight vehicle that enters a turn to fast merely increases the the radius of the turn until the front tires can regain grip. A loose vehicle that enters a turn too fast decreases the radius of the turn until the rear tires losses grip and the vehicle spins out. This is why I said in post #3 adding a rear alone is possibly dangerous.

Pretty sure comes with front sways . I maybe wrong like I have been a million times  OP? I added rear sways in mine and handles turns great . Not street racing so for everyday driving all good .prrrunners come with front sway bars
From factory lot of cars got pretty shitty handling .Most dont set cars up for performance handling .
Op check out street truck section and ask there . Lot have added rear sways and can give advice since they already done mods and stuffs.
Have a great day Marc

I added the Hellwig rear sway we’ll over 5 years ago and I can say that it makes the rear end feel like an SUV but without the extra 200 to 300 pounds in the rear. During lane changes, the back end flattens out faster when completing the lane change with the rear sway than without , and during cornering there is less roll. The back end simply doesn’t roll as much and it flattens back to steady state faster. It must do something because over time I’ve bent my rear end links that come with the kit.

I wouldn’t bother with swapping out the front-sway to match a Hellwig or Addco since it’s it’s only 1 mm larger. It’s one of those mods where there probably is a marginal improvement but you aren’t going to know unless you spend a full day doing before and after and before and after attempts.

Be forewarned that Hellwig’s hammertone paint job will eventually come off if you deal with salt during winter.
