So i'm about to take both sides apart and do Wheel bearings, seals and rebuild cvs with new orange boots. My question is Does the needle bearing on everyone's transfer case gone out? I'm thinking why do all this work and not replace with ecgs bushing? I have tried to wiggle both sides and there's not tons of play but the truck is 08 so.. shit .My truck is currently dead in the driveway and borrowing ex wife's car but I need my truck back. thanks tacoma gurus

If you have the time to wait for the parts and tools to do it, I would do it while you're in there. It couldn't hurt. OTOH, if you aren't experiencing any issues right now and you need your truck back I'd just slap it back together and take it apart again later if the need arises.

Agreed if your in a time crunch, don’t have the parts and aren’t experiencing any vibes just do it at a later time. It’s not a ton of work to get the bushing done later.

This, if you are lifted do it (ECGS only goes on drivers side BTW). If you are not lifted they seem to be durable at the factory geometry.

The ECGS bushing goes in the front diff. If you're calling the front diff a transfercase.......yikes.

After 200,000 miles and a lift with 33” tires my needle bearing looked perfect. I did the ECGS mod thinking it was necessary. It was not. Yes it does have tighter tolerances but not noticeable from the driver seat.

Did you have the vibration at all before taking a look at the needle bearing? Curious if it was vibrating and still looked good or no vibrations. I have 33s with 2inch lift with s vibration. Will do the bushing next time I’m working on something up front.

Thought I had vibes, wasn’t coming from the needle bearing at all. I had a 3” lift for 80,000 miles and it looked good. I would look at wheel bearings, tire balance and alignment before pulling it out.
