have an 08 tacoma the a/c began to blow cold only on the drivers side passenger would be warm. So I had the condenser replaced , shrader needle valve low/high, cabin filter and O rings replaced. Also the whole system vacuumed out and recharged. It stayed cold for a few days and after the whole system began to only blow hot air. What could be the issue??

I’ve seen this on VW’s a flap in your heating and ventilation system is probably not moving from hot to cold.

You would have to figure out what solenoid moves the flap and do some diag to see if it’s getting a signal to move. The heater control unit could be the issue, the solenoid might be fried or maybe something blocking it.

My 10 had similar problems, would hold a charge for about a month or so then start to warm up. It gradually got worse, to the point that it was holding charge for about a day. Had it diagnosed multiple times at a/c shops, they ran dye through the system and could never find a leak. Finally let a friend of a friend mechanic look at it and he thought it was leaking from the evaporator.

Ordered the part, tore the dash out, and sure enough the evaporator and the a/c box that it sets in were covered in years worth of green dye. Replaced evaporator and I've had ice cold air ever since.

It's definitely a pain in the dick to replace it yourself, but it'll save you $1000+ in labor.

Quick R134a recharge and you should be good to go. I had the same issue.

Recharging it will only be a temporary solution, it definitely sounds like it's leaking somewhere... Believe I went through hundreds in refrigerant over the years before it was finally diagnosed correctly.

Oh no, there was probably nothing wrong with the A/C system itself. Did you decide to change all that out or did someone sell it to you and say it would fix your problem? That knob that redirects air to your face, feet, or windshield moves a flap inside the A/C ducting. I bet the motor on the passenger side is stuck.

Just what 2nd gens do when coolant is low. 3rd Gen 4runners do the same. My 4runner did it at the beginning of a summer then my taco did the same a month or so later. Filled them with coolant and no more problems.

The valve that lets coolant into the heater core can also be stuck open. All the hot coolant from your engine would be going into the cab and your a/c will never get cold

There is NO Valve on these engines that open for coolant to the heater core. The heater core gets coolant flow all the time when the thermostat is open.

There is a blend door that separates the heating and cooling.

The cold on the drivers side and warmer as you move towards the passenger side is a classic indicator of low R134a. OP you have a leak somewhere.

Then you obviously don't have a leak

    Exactly x2
