I’ve had both good and bad experiences with salvage title vehicles before, but that’s a story for another day.

I’ve been casually looking for a 3rd vehicle for a while and the Solara Convertible has kind of sparked my interest, but I’m finding a very shocking number for sale that have salvage titles. Was there something specific about them that caused them to total out easily? I’d strongly prefer a clean title, but is there something I should be looking out for?

Terrible, 2 door coupes have gone away in FWD format due to lack of performance, lack of function and lack of design.

The convertibles make me sick to drive, the windshield isn't rigid like a standard car and it actually rocks while driving.

Also, a salvage convertible is the biggest NO in the universe. I've seen converts with damage and they never lineup properly.

Oh, I agree. I’d never buy a salvage convertible, but I don’t really have an issue with a $5k convertible that has a Toyota drivetrain. Screw performance, I just want to pick up a cushy drop top to cruise around on nice days.

I’m just curious why I’m finding so many that have salvage titles. Older BMW 3 series convertibles are also on my search list and there are way less salvages showing up.

If you live in an area that sees ANY rainfall or this isn't just a fair weather car to come out of the garage on a clear day or night......No to the salvage title on a 'vert. I love a convertible but never falling for that again.

Second on the Solara being a terrible convertible in the best of shape. Almost as weird as a PT cruiser topless.

BTW: I'm not against salvage title either if you know what your looking at and is cheap enough.

I finally did some research and Solaras do indeed suck. My wife despises the manual trans in the Tacoma, so she was surprisingly on board with buying a "beater" convertible when she realized I might finally own an automatic that she can drive easily when she has to DD me home. I'd rather have a 5 speed, but I've learned to pick and choose my battles wisely.

My brother and his girlfriend both own Miatas, so they are really trying hard to talk me into a one...I always thought they were girly, but their autocross car is a ton of fun to drive and they're among the cheapest of convertibles right now. I really just want something that will come out of the garage for the occasional commute if it's nice, weekend trips to the brewery, and cars and coffee drives.
