I think that might be an overly broad statement.

I don't know jack about the 2.7- but chances are if you find a "chip" or "programmer" that costs like 50 bucks...It won't work.
If you get something from UniChip, JetChips, etc...It could be a good thing- if you've done other mods. A programmer will unlock more potential from a modded engine. It'll do a bit for a stocker-clean up some throttle response and what not...but nowhere near the benefits of a chip with other mods.

The only reason i would get a "chip" was if i turboed my 2rz. Then again, it wouldnt be a chip, but a standalone programmer.

jet chip now makes a new mass air sensor for the 2.7L it just came out about two weeks ago.

    Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor
    Part #: 69147

The JET Powr-Flo Mass Air Sensor delivers improved horsepower, torque and mileage from your car, truck or SUV by simply replacing the restrictive stock mass air sensor. The factory sensor not only is a major restrictive point in stock intake systems, but it also limits the full potential of aftermarket cold air intake systems. The flow bench tested design of the JET Mass Air Sensor provides airflow increases of up to 45% and installs in 10 minutes or less. Compatible with other aftermarket upgrades such as computer upgrades, cold air intakes, TBI spacers, free flow exhaust systems, etc. More Details Instructions

    PRICE: US$179.95

well maybe, Have you ever pulled the mass air sensor out of the 2.7L or 4.0L 2nd gen engine? I dont see how its restricting that much air like they say but it can deff. be programmed differently to give you the increases.
