Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
police recovered two weapons: a shotgun and a .22 rifle with a "telescopic" sight. so it was either birdshot or the "wimpy" .22 that killed a dozen people. personally, i wouldn't want to be shot by either. i keep Olin MilSpec 00 and slugsters in my defense shotgun...i would prolly go for a pistol first though. (closer) speaking of which...anyone seen this before?:

My favorite home defense shotgun round is #4 Buck in 3" mag. It has 41 pellets.

That was clearly a grazing shot. If that guy got shot directly with bird shot, it would've torn his face off. Lucky bastard for sure.

there was a shooting here recently and the guy used a shotgun with buckshot. The first victim was shot in the hand about 3 feet away. destroyed her hand...but not bad enough for her to lose it, they were able to do skin grafting and save it.
One of my wife's friends was another victim. she was shot at probably 6-8 feet away. the shooter was clearly a terrible shot but he landed a pellet in her hip and another one went in around her elbow and traveled up into her tricep. the bullets are still there, other than metal trauma she is gonna be fine.

So if you are gonna use a shotgun make sure you actually do aim, don't just point and blast if you intend to get a kill shot

LEAD dust? seriously? this i have to check out. lead is toxic, especially in dust form. ("bullet" form aint too healthy either ;))

thanks for this thread. i have O/U shotguns scattered about the home. i thought i was smart loading them with duck loads. i will have to rethink my defensive plans. thx!

Hmm... 3 1/2" T shot should suffice for personal protection right?

i have shot birdshot at about 3 feet thru a 2x4 long ways (3.5") it made a perfect hole like a paddle bit on a drill so it is lethal for sure but practical as a means of self defense wouldnt bet my life on it unless as a last resort.

Put some turkey loads in there. Won't be any problems with it. It will hurt your shoulder but leave them stone cold dead.
