So weird. Mine is doing the same
my speedo was working fine, but I had both rear speed sensors throwing coded of malfunction.
replaced my sensors with new toyota ones.
them my speed stopped working and I still have codes
reset coded, then my speedo bounced for a couple sec and the abs, brake and check engine lights come back on
no problem up shifting or driving at all
also my Cruise control doesn't work as expected
Someone told me because mine is an auto tranny it wouldn't be my tranny speed sensor as it doesn't have in sensor, but used the rear speed sensors for the speedo.
Very Fustrating.I son't think my cluster went bad all the sudden out of nowhere, but I should take it apart.

So my issue was a faulty ABS control module (speedometer brain) it would work sometime, then stop working and not come back on. Could be a fuse? But it could be a fault in the cluster
