My Brother in-law’s Gen 5 T4R died on the highway near Beaverton, OR 90k on the clock. His mechanic said there was no oil after being towed to his shop. He added 4 or 5 quarts and said it’s knocking really bad. The mech claimed a faulty PCV valve could drain his oil and he would never know it. I have my suspicions.

I haven’t gotten the entire story so I don’t know exactly what has happen. My brother in-law said it never leaked, didn’t smoke, have any drivability problems. I don’t know which cylinder failed or even if he had checked the spark plugs.

Any suggestions for mechanics in Beaverton Oregon? He’s planning on towing it to Beaverton Toyota. Are they a half way decent dealer? He’ll probably trade it in but I am curious about the cause of death don’t hear about 1GR’s failing often.
