K I've noticed the trend TW Experts saying if you take it too far you are stupid.

Now I would like all this "experts" that are rightfully criticizing the website creator, to answer the gist of his 2 questions with an explanation of why you came to those values, the other part of his point is, "If you are going to deny my warranty because I went to far, what are the safe limits".

One word answer YES there is SOME truth to his claims.

The limits are anything outside of a normal, paved-road, city commute. Anything. Thats not a knock against Toyota, all car and truck manufacturers bury this language in their warranty policy. Jeeps deny warranty if the dealer spots mud in places mud shouldnt exist. Subaru is notorious for keeping a database of VINs spotted at racing events.

I'm thinking that most people misunderstand the basic legal definition of a warranty. The warranty does not define or reflect what the vehicle is designed for, its sole purpose is to cover manufacturer defects, and that's it. Wear and tear does not count as a manufacturers defect. If the engine explodes while parking it in the mall, the cause can be easily and legally sourced to an internal flaw that occurred at the factory. If the engine explodes because the driver tried to ford 10 inches of water, thats considered operator abuse, no matter if the real cause was a factory flaw or not. Why? because 99% of the time the car broke because it was indeed abused, and most dealers dont have a magic CSI microscope lab to prove the 1% of cases that weren't. All the service advisor can see is the extra thick layer of mud on the undercarriage, and thats enough to prove in a court of law the definition of wear and tear. Thats why it does not matter what the vehicle was designed for. The truck is advertised as a toy because it is capable of being a toy. But like any other hobby on this earth, if you want to use it as a toy, its on your pocketbook to fix it when it breaks, not the dealer's.

If you read through this thread, it was already posted where others have had a similar issue.... at least the same symptoms with the 4.0L.

There are differences in the engines, but they are way more similar than most people here understand. You could probably put the crank from a 4.0L into the 3.5 and essentially get a 4.0L.... Now you might need to change fuel injection parts or at least tune it for the right A/F mixture, but this car engine stuff is just silly.

It's just an engine that was designed to fit a variety of platforms.

 

No one ever had a problem with a 4.0 - ever.

...because it's a TRUCK motor.

The LS motors they put in cars are aluminum blocks and heads the LS motors they put in trucks are iron blocks and heads.

They are completely different motors made for different applications. 80% of the internal parts won’t interchange. But hey your right they’re not that different

The iron blocks or more robust. You can spray more NOS or add more boost to them.
