As the title states, I'm a proud new owner of a 2014 Toyota Tacoma access cab, and a total noob to everything car audio. I love the truck, so of course the first thing I want to so is start upgrading things. It came with a Pioneer AVH-1700s deck, which feels dated but should work for the time being.

Space is definitely at a premium, and I'd like to keep as much room as possible in the cabin, so I've decided to go with a low profile powered sub. Right now the main contender is the Pioneer TS-WX130DA, but I also see similar offerings from Kenwood and Alpine, albeit at a higher cost. Any opinions here would be greatly appreciated.

I also plan on switching my door speakers to Kicker KSC650's, as I found a great deal on a pair and I'm sure they will be an improvement over OEM.

Which brings me to my main struggle, and that is the amp. I can get a gently used Dual XPR82D for $40 from a friend, which seems to get good reviews for its price point. However I recently discovered the Alpine KTP-445U 4 channel power pack, which seems to be exactly what I'm looking for, since I wont need to power a sub with it. The cost is about 3x the Dual but installation looks alot more straightforward.

That pretty much sums it up. My budget is pretty tight, what with a new truck payment to deal with, but I'd love to hear input on my plans so far.

Alpine power pack all day, every day

Dual is junk unfortunately. And "full size" amps like that are a much more involved install process than the newer brick amps.

For powered subs, the Kicker Hideaway seems to be the crowd favorite here. I've installed a lot and they're good for the size and money. Also done the Alpine and an older Infinity model.
I've never done the Pioneer you listed so if you go that route, be sure to let us know your thoughts. Always interested to see reviews for different budgets.

Thanks Destin, this is the exact info I was looking for. I think I'll start with the power pack and door speakers, then do some more research on the sub selection. Best Buy near me has an open box Power Pack, might have to swing by after work tomorrow and get this project started.
