You're right it can cut stel, but the distance they cut steel is like a millimeter between the tip and the steel? Driving 80 mph through rain does more to your paint than a pressure washer does...

The paint was probably already chipped in that spot. It actually looks like something struck it.

I believe they cut steel with 30,000-90,000 psi
    Not a Ryobi 1500.

Even more reason to believe it wasn't the pressure washing.

I dont know what PSI you used at home but with the carwash pressure washers I have blasted my paint at point blank with no ill effects. Many many times. I cant even get the dealer decal to come off with point blank pressure washing.

    Um, no.

Today we will look at the speed of the water coming out of the pressure washer nozzle. A pressure washer with a flow rate of 3 GPM using a typical 0-degree nozzle with an orifice size of 0.052″ (1.32mm) has a water speed out the nozzle of 243 mph (391 km/hr).

a ryobi 1500 isn't putting out 1500 psi with a 40 degree tip unless you're using tips with a really small orifice.

i use a greenworks 1950 with a 2.5 gpm 40 degree tip and the output measures just over 900 psi. i have zero concerns about blasting my cars at <6" with it.

The surface under the paint doesn't look like metal. It looks like Bondo or some type of filler. I wonder if damaged was fixed prior to your purchase?

Lol you need to add about 3500 more horsepower to your truck to get to 243 mph.

You need a CAI and OV tune for sure...

1500 psi and a 40 deggree nozzle shouldn't remove paint unless you were to close or the paint was messed up some how .

Exactly, a pressure washer at high enough psi, with the right nozzle, and too close can damage paint, but it won't look like that. Those are rock chips.

This is hilarious, don’t use a power washer on your vehicle, f**king TW people sometimes. I guess the detail industry, car washes and the countless people myself included that have used them for decades must be just totally wrong. According to some people here my paint must be totally gone and down to primer by now using a power washer every few weeks. JFC. Guess I should be using unicorn tears instead.

Never had an issue with the pressure washer either. I have a 2200 psi electric. I even use the 15 degree tip at reasonable distance and never an issue.

My pressure washer is the typical cheapie electrics, probabaly grossly over rated marketing wank.

Peeled the paint off a my car years ago. And it was t a small chip like it came off it big hand sized chunks

It was also not a home unit. But a high pressure hot water commercial unit and I got to close.
