So, I have done some researching trying to find some info and threads on getting my 2013 TRD Sport 6MT re-geared. Cant really find to much info on pros or cons of sizes of gears for my setup. I have Fox Shocks all the way around, TC UCAs and Dakars with 285 65 18 Cooper AT3 XLT. Its a bit sluggish in comparison to the way it was and I just want to get some pep back, and hopefully some better gas mileage if I can. I was looking at ECGS website and was thinking of doing 4.56 with some kind of a locker in the rear. Can anyone point me in a different direction or maybe give some input if that would be to much gear for me. Its my daily but will do some wheeling every so often. Thanks in advance.!

I have the 4.56 gears but mine is an auto.

What locker are you looking at? The ARB lockers have had seal issues for the past year and a half. They may or may not have it sorted out now, the jury is still out.

With the 6MT and 33s, you’ll be a little overgeared with 4.56. That’s alright though, it just means you’ll be able to jump up to 35s in the future and still be ok. Downside is cruising on the highway your rpms will be a little higher. As long as you’re not trying to do 80+ on the highway you’ll be alright

Well, I honestly prob will stay with the 33s and if this ever doesn't become my daily ill consider it, but definitely no plans of that in the near 5 year future.. This truck never sees anything over 80

Do you feel as if its over geared..? I was actually looking at doing an ARB but maybe ill re-consider if they haven't straightened out the seal issue..

It sounds like 4.30 may be better up your alley.

The MT and the AT are geared a bit differently with the MT being lower overall, which is why we can get away with higher gearing compared to our AT counterparts. For example the general consensus for 35s is 4.56 for MT and 4.88 for AT.

How long are you planning on being on 33s? I went with 4.88, plenty of power now. Consider any weight that you might add to the truck, future mods or larger tires.

mmmmmmmm I seeeee, I had factory 3.73 in my wrangler and ran them forever with 33s and once I swapped out fro 35s she was a PIG, went 4.88 and was awesome..i can see a very similar resemblance here. That's why I was considering the 4.56, would 4.30 bring me back to a closer factory gearing or would it be a lower gear than say my factory 3.73 with 245?

I am more than happy with staying 33s. I have a bumper, I will prob be making a bed rack and doing some sliders, and RTT... Also kind of why I was considering going as low with 4.56

@EatSleepTacos is right. but I would go with the 4.56 if it was mine. I would like the lower crawl speed.

ARB has had 4 different seals in the last year. I had 3 of them and ended up with a Detroit locker in the rear.

The newest seal is made by a different company. Last time I called 3 weeks ago ECGS had like 30 of them in the field for a couple months with no problems. That wasn't a long enough test for me and I need a working locker over a year ago so I went with a Detroit

Yeah as long as you’re ok being a little over geared then I say go 4.56. As Greg mentioned it’ll help your crawling on the trails.

That’s why I’m gonna go 4.88 when I regear (I’m a 6MT as well). It’s not my DD, and I’m gonna switch to 35s next but want the option of 37s as my build progresses. I want a lower gear on the trail and I don’t mind driving slower on the highway to get to trails

Awesome.. thanks for all your guys input.. Just a little concerned with the whole arb seal issue. Not really sure of any other selectable for the rear..

Harrop e locker, or TJM makes a selectable air locker (or at least used to). The design is a little different than the arb and superior. Call ECGS and see if they can still get it. They used to be able to.
