Here's an example of what those leather painter guys can do, thats NOT a replacement but using their method I described above. Again its not a permanent fix as even this seat will return to looking like the first pic after a year or two, but given yours is on the side and you don't actually touch that area a fix like this might last 3 years + and its cheap, again only like $50

Keep in mind that even if the dealer denies your claim, you can ask that a regional rep take another look. Of course, that means another trip and more or your time possibly wasted.

Most leather seats have leather on the part that touches a person's body, so the back and sides would be vinyl unless you are talking about $100k+ vehicles. I am not sure if it matters in this case except maybe vinyl is cheaper to repair.

How does that even happen on the SIDE of the seat? Weird.

Highlighted above sums up how Toyota will see it, wear and tear, and based of such, will not cover it. It's unfortunate, I know, I had Katzkins in my 4Runner and after 11k miles they were doing the same.

Same size and build. We’re far. Kidding lol. But I use my sliders as a step to avoid doing this

If all else fails a leather repair guy can fix it. $300 or so. My 2015 sr5 had a steering wheel rip. I told the GM of my dealership about it after service refused my claim. The big guy had a repair guy come out to my work and repaired in my parking lot. Perfect fix

I have an upholstery shop near my house,I may stop by and see if he can fix it and see how much it might cost. How did the steering wheel rip? The leather was coming off of it?

Probably getting pinched against the lumbar adjustment when he gets in/out of the truck.

It’s abrasion against a harder material. At some point you get this.
