WOW. Now that is sharp. Where did you get the wire loom brackets? I haven't seen any with that shape. Neat job!

Thank you, the brackets were from lowes and I just used a channel lock taped up to bend them and space correctly, I looked at the one good plastic cover over those wires like Clint Eastwood and the plastic busted to pieces. I had to get heat tape and nobody had tessa so I wound up getting DEI gold insulation tape it’s about the same as tessa just looks Gotti.

I understand. There is a tape that Advance carries named "Cool Tape" that's silver that I use for wrapping wires. Then I will follow it up with a wrap of silicone tape to cover it.

I know the clamps very well. I use them a lot for rerouting and improving harnesses.

My clamps are shorter actually now, I didn’t get a pic they were originally modified now they are exactly like your pic. You’re pic is clean A/F! You’re work is top notch.

I forgot I checked every valve with a good set of feeler gauges and at my mileage, I was surprised all were within spec.

Always a good thing to check and to see everything in spec.

alright, i had an opportunity to goto the salvage yard the other day to check out a recently added totaled 2oo1 3.4 (they sat it over the hugest puddle only accessible by carefully stepping on tires laid out and the truck was up on stilts so could only reach so far into it)
the engine was pretty much still intact, only a few items had been parted out so far (MAF being one of them)

the harness channel was intact and probably had never been touched before, as mine has not until recently.

i was able to remove both 10mm bolts very easily (felt like i was experimenting with a cadavar in med school lol) looked at where all the wires were going everywhere and felt it best not to start snipping off wire bundles so I could get a closer look at the plastic channel. I rolled it around abit in my fingers to see if it would just unsnap from the bottom and didn't see how to do that.

tried to gently bend the tabs where mine is broken and it seems like an extremely hard piece of plastic! that would not break easily unless improperly reinstalled? i.e., with a power tool instead of hand tool ... i have no clue what the pro mechanics behind closed doors do!

the bolt I took out looks deep enough that it would not just spontaneously pop out, breaking the tab, and disappear if properly put back in the first place :notsure:

i have not yet inquired with the indie Toyota mechanic i am trying to develop a certain level of trust with (to take care of my truck with more than minor maintenance I probably don't wanna try on my own for fear of the unknown!) if this is repairable by just putting a new channel over the wires and re-fastening or if its totally messed up as I think was previously mentioned in this topic and would have to resort to the loom modification.

i am not the type of person that enjoys confrontation so not decided if I should take it back to the dealer mechanic and have them explain and rectify their $550 fckJ0B on my engine I trusted them with or report them to Toyota customer care Report a Dealer option and see what they do for me there...

i have other pending issues besides this and its just being one pancake after another it seems, cannot take care of everything at once

Say what you will, but the plastic loom that you are talking about IS extremely brittle. 90% of them are broken if the valve covers have been removed. Mine loom was in great condition and it broke in the same spot. I also took great care to try and not break it, but it did anyway. I would not fault a dealer or other mechanic if the tab was broken after a job. The loom is secured in other spots and really doesn't even need that mount to be honest.

    thanks,
i just don't honestly know nuts about bolts :(
it just looked like something that was not easily breakable if handled with care and not use a power tool to zip zip back on

still does not explain why the whole damned bolt was missing!
plus they probably shoulda made note of breaking it on the workorder

also found a totally stripped and rounded front diff drain plug done from another dealer long time ago, so i don't know about the ineptitude of these dealer mechanics in my area
suppose i could just forego anymore preventative maintenance and just abandon it on the highway somewhere broke down and thumb a ride back into town

one of these local dealers also had NO friggn clue as to where my front 'turn signal' was even located

Nope, just liberal with solvents and attention to detail, most mechanics only care about fixing individual problems. I don’t mind driving my Subaru when this engine is being torn down, you just need beer, music, and patience. I don’t even want to touch peoples vehicles if the engine isn’t clean, I’m ocd to the max. Kinda helps for clients if they see you take care of your own car. Ask most mechanics to see under their hood, lol, most will walk away, lmfao. Might help ya weed out some bad mechanics. The wire loom is trashed at, at least 70k on most Toyota’s, btw.

The guys you dealt with probably don’t work well with public like most mechanics so they just didn’t mention it assuming you might complain, I have worked side bye side with good and shady mechanics at reputable shops. The problem is almost any smaller or larger shops don’t want to pay for a mistake be it small or big and I have seen huge bills that were totally justified being knocked down to 1/3 the price after someone bitched, and the guys that don’t complain get to pay for those assholes that do too much! It’s unfair and unjust and if it bothers you, you should say something and bring a friend for backup because grease monkeys always have a tool so be careful and bitch politely and they may treat you good, as should be. I’m sure a few good members here would pitch in and do real work for a couple cases o’ beer. Don’t let the Joneses get you down!, just because you look at your truck as it would be better to off it, I see potential and you already own it and are willing to leave it on the side of the road, so might as well look at tutorials here and spend your hard earned money on great tools and you could get further ahead financially, and completing little jobs one at a time you will earn stripes and new tools. Don’t look at it like you can’t work on it because if you start working on it, it will be tlc and mechanics don’t really give you that.
