I'm sure you get asked this quite often on the forums...

Why drive a foreign Tacoma, when you have access to the 2.8/2.4L diesel Hilux? I would imagine with running a ranch, and the distance you have to travel, a diesel is a better option. It gets you better fuel mileage, as well as the ability to consolidate fuel types at the ranch. This is of course assuming any heavy equipment you may use is diesel. Are parts easily available for the Tacoma, even though it isn't sold locally?

Not at all. First time i'm asked that...

You're right. Most of folks here drive Hilux, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger and Amarok. All trucks with 4 cyl. diesel.
All other equipment in the ranch is diesel.
    Why the Tacoma ?
    - First, I don't like doing like everyone
    - Since the 80's, I was used to work with Toyota LandCruiser trucks and SUV's, 6 cyl. ,4.0 or 4.2 l engines; I like that.
    - The diesel required for modern engines of the Hilux, Nissan, Ranger,.... is not cheaper here than gasoline; and the mileage of those 4 cyl. trucks is not better than mine. (and fuel savings is not my biggest concern when I buy a truck)
    - I like trucks made in the US.
    - the Tacoma is the only midsize truck with double cab/long bed.
    - and the Taco , in my opinion, is the most beautiful.

That being said, this is my 2d Tacoma since 2009. At the same time, a good vehicle for long travelling and an excellent off-road truck, reliable even in the worst conditions, comfortable, pleasant to drive.
I don't want another. Except a Tundra, but more expansive, difficult to park in town, and most importantly difficult to rescue when stuck in heavy deep mud.
The Tacoma has a cheap maintenance, some oil , oil filter, air filter; as the Toyota dealer in Paraguay sells the FJ Cruiser with the same V6 engine; so, most of parts are easily avalaible.
Sometimes I order online (Amazon) some stuff that are too expensive locally (accessories only).
I can say after 10 years of use of the Tacoma that this truck has very low maintenance and reparation costs (because it doesn't break down). And mine works 80 % time off-road.
For reference, the ranch also uses a Nissan fontier and a Ford ranger, and those 2 trucks cost a fortune to maintain and repair.

Back at it again in Greenwater for a quick overnight trip. Found a nice spot to shoot and camp for the night. Weather was amazing for us and the bugs we're even an issue. 10/10 will camp again.

Yes sir. It is Speedway Blue. I think Toyota only had it available for the first couple years for the 2nd Gen.

I'm almost sure I saw this truck parked outside a Goodwill today. Your bumper and speedway blue truck caught my eye as I was leaving the Mcdonalds.

That's sweet. My 2nd gen is Barca Red, but I see them around quite often. Never seen a blue like that.
