Kayak Ladder Rack with Deck railing System

Hi, I have a 16 Tacoma Limited with the deck railing system and I am wanting to get some racks to haul kayaks/lumber that can easily be removed. Any recommendations? With the railing system it seems it would be difficult to mount without drilling holes which I do not want to do.

An online search show some that will work but I think 800+ is a little steep. Just curious if you all have found a good rack. Thanks!

 

The Rola Haul-Your-Might T3 (part # 59799) is probably the cheapest rack you'll get from the bigger manufacturers. It's pretty light weight and very sturdy. Once you do the initial fitting, installation and removal is less than 10 minutes.

 

Hi, I know you were looking for info on a rack, but I've used a T-Bone carrier for my kayak and like it very much. I just can't lift 50 lb. + kayaks up to the roof height anymore. Plus I wanted to keep my locking one piece tonneau cover in place.

I have this one and it works great. It comes with clamps that slide into the rail system and installs in about 10 minutes (if you are doing it alone) with 8 bolts.

Attached is a picture of it on the truck. My only beef is that I wish it sat a little lower. The crossbars sit a little higher than it looks. A few inches lower would have been great.

Looks like these. I just put some on my truck over the weekend for my kayaks.

 

I use the factory roof rack so the bed is still available for coolers and other gear. I can't have things sticking out behind the truck because... the bigger boat or the motorcycle trailer is there. The rack was something like $350 from Toyota. Then, another $50 for the kayak racks themselves on Amazon ... they go on and off the rails with crown nuts in 5 minutes. It takes me a total of 10 minutes to get the racks on, and get the boats on the rack. Very easy and secure.

 

How is it putting the boats up there? Do you load them from the bed or from the side?

I'm looking at a similar set up and trying to figure out what to expect.

I have the Yakima Bedrocks with 66” Yakima bars. It comes in super handy for carrying two kayaks when going out camping so I have the whole bed to fill with camping gear/firewood. I opted the bed rack system over the OEM roof rack because the kayaks are roughly 40lbs each and with the increased force from the wind on top I thought it might be a bit much for the roof racks. Both the kayaks are 10 feet.

How easy are the Yakimas to take on and off? I have a roll up tonneau, but need something that locks for ski season and maybe kayaks (in the future).

 

No problem. I didn't know they had a very low profile rack. I got a boat about a month ago and have been having fun with a friend who just got one also. I'm trying to talk him into a river float. I think I can get both of ours in the Taco with the lumber second tier, but we haven't tried yet. That rack would be a good backup plan.

 

They’re pretty easy. They essentially use a bolt that tightens into the bed rail, and it has a “clamp” that closes down and secures it pretty well. That can be locked so you can’t release tension and take them off. Taking them on/off takes me no longer then 5 minutes. I can post more detailed pictures later today showing how they’re setup.
