Could be lots of things...dirty injectors, clogged fuel filter, dirty air filter, missing flux capacitor, etc. Hooking up to a computer does nothing for fine tuning. It’s not a megasquirt ECU.

I had a cracked head we replaced that and we also put on a new distributor cap button and timing gear on the distributor. New fuel and air filters, plugs, wires, water pump. Injectors are clicking and sound like they are working.

What makes you think timing? Can you describe the symptoms. Someone may be better able to help if you give us that info.

The check engine light is on but have not checked the code. It always says it is catalytic converter. The symptoms are it hesitates, it has a loss of power if mash the pedal down or going up hill

On OBD2 cars you can not adjust the base timing, but you can still hook a timing light up to manually check the timing on the crankshaft pulley.

Check the codes. The cam sensor is built into the distributor and if it's not matching the crank sensor timing you'll probably get a code. I mean if you installed the distributor 1 tooth off.

With an OBD2 scanner you can also watch the live data and you might find something is not normal.
