Your best Synthetic Oil

Good info. This reminds me of Honda motor oil. I've heard from some retired Honda engineers their motor oil is basically Mobil 5000 with some "secret sauce" like a Moly additive and seal conditioner for longevity.

 

I just ordered two cases. I ain't messing with it. The price isn't bad. I change oil every 3,500 to 4,000 anyway.

Real nice, Your truck should like it. What did you pay for /quart? Sometimes you can catch good dealer sales. The 5w-30 is getting harder to find since toyota is almost exclusively using 0w-20 for everything.

I always use Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5W30 Full Synthetic with the sticker for modern turbocharged engines. Every 6k

 

I always use Amsoil syn in my two stroke snowmobile and chainsaws and the cheapest brand name 5-30 Walmart oil in the pickup. The 2011 is the youngest at 120K the others 300+K when I sold them.

After seeing how Mobile 1 performed, it's interesting that so many people on here recommend it.

Amsoil is the shit.

 

Amsoil once truly was a full synthetic oil now just like all the rest of them it too is a blended oil.

 

I really enjoy his videos! That said, you gotta remember this is just one data point, and viscosity isn't the do all end all of how the oil will perform under engine conditions. I change my oil every 3-4K... not because it needs it, but because I enjoy doing it. I think that if you maintain other systems in the engine and keep up on regular changes, most modern oils will perform adequate and protect the engine.

 

I’ve debated where or not to switch to synthetic oil. I think the most important part is an oil change at 3k if possible for reg oil. I change my oil every 3k miles like clock work.
Do these 3.4 motors really need synthetic oil as they are so well made?
I guess a better oil is always a good idea.

My fist motor ran till 480,000 with reg oil. Head gasket popped so was not oil related and all supercharged miles too.
Still don’t know if I should switch. Still on the fence.

My replacement motor here has 225,000 miles and it looks dam clean inside with reg Dino oil.

Well for Passenger vehicles, they make multiple flavors of each viscosity. The XL line is largely Hydrocracked Group 3 but the Signature line is still as "synthetic" as you get. The XL will happily meet or slightly exceed the factory recommendation and can be used in confidence.

Technically all modern oils are blends, even the SAE 30's and 40's.

I would agree that Signature is a waste of money unless you're doing annual oil changes in excess of 15,000 miles. Theres just no need. Plenty of vehicles are lasting 100's of thousands of miles on Supertech.
