Update: We've had some rain recently including over night and my floor mat is dry! I drank 3 pints of JDM Asahi and celebrated. Just a FYI: taking out the dash to solve this problem is a unnecessary like those before me tried to tell me. Use real seam sealer and don't be afraid to use your hands to spread it while elbow deep...

Good news and CONGRATULATIONS. It's raining right now here. I'm seeing a leak that appears to be down on the door seal. Then right on the lower corner seam, moisture appears but I can't see any source for it. We had a couple of rains and tornados aloft last week. No leaks then.

My truck was leaking a few years ago on the passenger side, and it was hard to replicate the leak with a hose, but after a good rain I'd come back to wet carpet. It ended up being a leaky windshield channel, but the way I diagnosed it may be helpful to others. I took about 3 or 4 paper towels, placed them at different spots on the inner part of the door and closed the door on them. By seeing which towels got wet I figured out the leak was up high, which ruled out a lot of potential leaky spots.

I think I found another source for the water on the passenger side. There is a rubber seal that runs along the roof and down the A-pillar. There was a buckle in that seal about midway across the top. It has separated from the channel groove where it should be set. I suspect water was getting under the buckled up part and dripping from the top of the door on the area by the kick panel.

Here's wishing you the best of luck.

It has been raining for the past few days. No new water drops on the passenger side. I kept the carpet pulled back so I could monitor it.

Since then, I've discovered a small leak on the driver side -- far left. I will need to pull the fender and give it the same treatment as the passenger side.

I fortunately don't have this problem but I feel your pain. My Matrix floods the carpet when leaves clog the drains down the fenders.

Here is some good info on the problem.

I wonder how many gold Tacomas have "the leak" compared to other colors?

Looks like its time to do this myself, then rip out the carpet and raptor line the interior.

    My 95 is purple

If you do, for the sake of those in this thread please document and make a post. I'm tempted to do this to help sound deaden. If money and time were not an issue: https://linex.com/news/2018/10/08/m...tects-against-vehicle-explosive-device-threat Do this to the whole truck inside and out lol.

Just an update: It's been raining a lot lately, sometimes all night long and my carpet has remained dry!

I know this is an old thread but I just did this to my Tacoma and fixed my leak. But when I went to put everything back together I can’t get my windshield wipers to work correctly. When I turn them on they go down first and hit the truck then go up. I’ve tried adjusting them and haven’t been successful. Any idea on how to fix this or did anyone else have an issue similar?

Yup, I had the same thing happen. What I did was put the blades on higher than needed then let the wipers run and turned the key off then when they were at the lowest position I switched the key off. Pulled the motor back loose leaving the wipers and linkage at that position. Turned the key back on with motor still disconnected from linkage and allowed it to cycle to normal off position then reconnected it to the linkage and bolted it back up. I thought it would take more than one try to get it perfect but I got it on the first try. Hope it works for you too.

I need to do this. I always get a funky smell whenever it rains or I wash my truck. I'm betting I have the same issue. Did you just spray the flex seal into the seams inside the fender area on the exterior?

I used a tube on the spray nozzle to direct the flex seal into cracks and crevices around the cowling. It's still holding after all this time.

so basically you sealed the cowling drainage area from driver side to pass side?
