They wanted to test my 2014 FJ Cruiser in 2015 and I just got a letter from CAFLOR wanting to emission test my 2015 Taco for compliance.

Sorry California, get the heck out of Michigan.

Personally, I don't understand why anyone would have their vehicle tested. For the measly sum of $150, they will keep it for a week or two, put it on a rolling road machine for 150 miles or so and drive it back and forth to Ann Arbor so around 250 miles or so and they will fill your gas tank up. Wow, what a deal....

At least they will give you a loaner vehicle.........now if it was a Lexus LC, I'd think about it.

They will [so they say] fix anything wrong with the emission/engine for ''free'' but there isn't anything wrong with mine so there isn't anything to replace. [under 2500 miles on it]

Has anyone else ever gotten one of these letters or is it just because I'm reasonably close to a test site that I get multiple ones?

Either way. 2500 miles? I'm assuming you bike to work or own another car?

WTF, is this for real? I have lived all over the country and have never heard of silliness like this.

I own a couple of other vehicles. I also used to work from home. [took the company vehicle home at night]

Lucky you! Never had that perk. Wished I had in my former line of work though!

Yes, for real, it's at 5665 Coomer Road West Bloomfield Michigan. The letter is from Toyota Motor North America in Ann Arbor Mi.

Oh, they will wash it too.

Are you registered or have some Cali connection? Why is California fucking with Michigan?
    Shit seems weird.

Edit: That address is just some random small town shop too. Err, maybe not small town-I zoomed out and saw Pontiac

Nope, never lived in California, visited once in around 1987 or so.

that is why I wonder why I get sent the letters, other then owning a Toyota, there isn't anything else to pop me up on any screens.

California is very over reaching in it's CARB garbage.

    Wow.
If I was loyal to a local dealer, I would be tempted to voice my displeasure-just to make myself feel better.
Otherwise, I might be tempted to take a dump on the letter and post a picture all over Toyota's social media.
Fuck California, and fuck Toyota for harassing(or even contacting) customers in other states over this.

Do your vehicles somehow have California Emissions so the VINs are registered in a CARB database? This makes no sense otherwise.

Yeaaaaah.... CARB makes us wanna bang our heads against the wall sometimes.

They actually setup a smog stop by my work sometimes... a mobile smog test machine (rollers n all) and will "randomly" select cars and pull you out of the traffic (usually older cars that they know possibly wont pass smog). Apparently there is no fines or no reporting but I say lies, id decline if i ever got selected.

Pretty much all vehicles sold in America are California emission certified.

They have the VIN of my vehicle so Toyota must get hit up to supply it to CARB and the testing facility.

Like I said, this is the second time and vehicle they have sent me letters on.

I would send them a registered reply charging them 50.00 per mile in order to "test" it. This is seriously weird.

I got an uncle that works for carb and would probably work on your vehicle if you offered. They basically use it to set baseline/tolerance for up coming vehicle that is due for smog. Smog due in CA for 5yr old vehicles.

There are positives in it. Certain vehicle got rebuilt engine, preventive maintenance, new sensors and so on for free. These usually are the older vehicle that they take in to reconfirm smog numbers.

But for your situation I wouldn’t offer lol.

Why dont they just call it what it is. Another tax. I just took my wife's 2013 Lexus hybrid to the DEQ for emissions testing and of course it passed with flying colors. Any car built after 2000 has to pass EPA standards before it can even be driven on the roads in the US. It's a total racket.
