Hey guys, rookie question so go easy on me.

    2017 tacoma off road dcsb

I have kings up front, factory in the back. I want to put kings in the back with a new leaf pack to raise the rear 2" so I can crank my front kings 1-2". I don't have the $$$ for the kings but I can afford to buy and install the ICon suspension 1.5" lift rear expansion leaf pack #51100. This is what 4wheel parts guy told me to get.

Question: can I install these without replacing my shocks just yet, then when I can afford the kings I will change them over. What ride quality change will I see since I am assuming the factory rear shocks are not long enough for a good ride with that type of lift.

I would wait, save your money on the Icon AAL (it's almost half the cost of a set of Dakars), and do everything exactly how you want it, at the same time.

The OEM shocks are what limits travel in the stock configuration. If you remove 1.5-2" of effective down travel for the lift and actually do anything that warrants having Kings in the back you could easily damage the OEM shock internals.

1.5” will be fine as long as you stay on pavement and don’t drop a tire.

Otherwise buy some Bilstein’s for the rear. If you can’t afford that then don’t buy anything yet, IMO.

Don’t forget brake lines, your factory lines will be fine unless you flex out then you’ll risk damage.

    1. Never trust 4wp. They are the Walmart of the offroad market.
    2. Install everything at once; do it once do it right.
    3. Replace the stock leafs with a medium duty pack.
    4. Throw stock leafs in the trash where they belong.
    5. Enjoy beer.

Alright alright, so lets say I get my hands on these kings. What leafs should I put in? I'm not towing anything, max weight in the back is just my camping gear so its minimal.

Install the Kings up front. Get 1.5” blocks on the rear; stick with the stock leafs. Two years from now get the rear you want.

I put stock replacement Monroe shocks on my truck with a three leaf AAL ( exactly 1.5 " lift) just to try them. When I back out of the driveway the left rear tire drops. The stock length shock lasted about 2- 3 months and started rattling badly. The short shock was holding the suspension during that maneuver and an internal stop must have broken. 5100's solved that problem.

Thanks for the info guys. So 1.5” blocks with stock leafs and stock shocks is OK to run for the time being? That way I can crank up my front kings a bit for a small lift.
