i have 1993 4x4 and have started hearing a pop noise in 4 wheel drive. It’s not a cv axle and it feels like the truck is in a bind when turning and then you’ll hear a pop. Can’t seem to find the problem. The truck is on the dirt and not the highway and is all original. Any help you have would be appreciated.

Maybe an issue with the manual hubs? If it's only happening in 4wd and you are sure it isn't the CV that is.

Upper and lower ball joints have been replaced. The cv axles was replaced last year. When I’m turning it almost stops the truck like it’s in a bind. Then you’ll hear an feel a pop somewhere around to the right of my foot.

Just an armchair guess, but it sounds like you're still in a spot where 4wd isn't needed. Even bare dirt can offer too much traction to allow wheel slip. It really should be loose or wet, not packed.

I don't think that's the case, I stay in 4HI on fire roads all the time doing tight turns and never experience any binding that creates popping or tension release.

OP if I understand you correctly you're saying this is coming from the right side of the truck? Not both sides?

Maybe a bad u-joint in the front driveshaft?

Do you feel the truck "hop" when the pop occurs or no? If it's hopping then that would suggest that it's binding up possibly due to too much traction, if it's not hopping then it's probably something else.

U joints checked yesterday and no it’s not coming from both sides. It’s not a cv axle.

Rock lobster don’t matter if it’s dirt mud sand it’s never done this and we can’t seem to figure it out this is why I asked to see if someone else has seen this problem. The wheel isn’t slipping so just stay in your armchair with your ignorant remarks

No need to get all pissy... if it doesn't help, just ignore it.

Could it be the rack and pinion, the coil, bushings need replaced? Let's see if we can narrow it down.

I understand, don't though. The way this works is we throw everything on the table and get you a answer. Then its party time in the thread. Most here are willing to help until the op's attitude turns sour. Don't be sour.

Video would help a lot. It's hard not to think that it's the CVs if it's specific to one side, even new CVs that are a year old can have issues (especially if they're aftermarket parts store CVs, those are not known to be very durable).

A video will help I think, once you have it you have to upload it to Youtube and then post the link on here (can't upload videos to this site directly).

Only other thing I can think of if it's side specific and only in 4wd, is maybe an issue with the manual hubs. But I don't know much about manual hubs so I can't really comment more on it.
