My rear shocks are shot and Im gonna replace them, nothing is lifted and im looking to pretty much stay stock. I noticed there are two different part numbers for the left and right for my 01' 4x4.

Ive discovered that a few brands have separate sizes for the left and right (Bilstein, Monroe, Rancho), while others don't (KYB, Gabriel). What I wanted to get was the KYB GasAjust, as it seemed like a good price for a monotube shock. But they do not make different sizes for L/R.

Does the L/R even matter or is it close enough? I figure there must be some reason Toyota has different sizes. Most of my driving is around town and occasional highway, very seldom do I tow or haul anything substantial. What is a good shock for that?

I do like the Bilsteins, but they cost 3x more than other brands. Monroe is cheaper but Im hesitant to use those. Seems Rancho is universally hated. Is there other brands I should be looking at? How are Toyota OEM shocks compared to these aftermarket brands?

They are side specific, longer one goes on passenger side. Shoot one of our vendors up for a price on the bilstiens. They give members discounts on parts.

I am in the same boat,I have an 03 prerunner 6 lug automatic 2 wheel drive and 2.7 L 4.
Amazon list a left and right, and Bilstein as well, but I called two different Toyota dealers and the said their both the same size,
I recieved two bilstein from a vendor and the part numbers match,24-026758 yet the 2 of different sizes are 24-184960 left and 24-184977.
    So anyone know what correct?
