I'd go with a general degreasing cleaner like simple green or 99 Cent store degreaser, another spray bottle of piping hot water, and a green scrubby pad with gentle pressure and that'll probably get it as clean as possible without going through the clearcoat that's still there. If you're going to paint it to look like new I'd just do the same process with red scotchbrite, get some decent primer, and paint - you don't need to take that down to bare aluminum to paint it. Any super bubbly stuff you could wire wheel I guess, but aluminum won't like a lot of that abrasion.

I have an LKQ replacement engine from a wrecked 4Runner (70,000 miles) all trimmed and ready to install. I want to take the old engine apart to determine why it was knocking. I suspect something went wrong during an overheating problem with the previous owner.

 

Gotchya. Hopefully you can let us know since it's not always discovered and / or posted when engine failures occur what was the exact cause. This is a thread when I was planning on rebuilding an engine I got with a blown head gasket and tore it down to inspect for clues to what happened. I ended up replacing it with a donor rather than rebuilding because the price to buy all the goodies and the learning curve it would take to assemble it correctly was too steep at that time in my life. Probably would be still a major learning curve a couple years later after messing around with my truck still.

I have been wanting to use my Wilco Offroad hitch gate for a while now but my Taco didnt have a hitch. So I odered a Draw Tite hitch on Amazon and it showed up today. So when I got home I installed everything. This will do until I decide which rear bumper I want . Tomorrow I will install the jerry can holder to see if I like it.

I remember someone specifically telling me that was a bad idea. Can't find the post though so maybe I'm thinking about something else. I'll look into it since I'd rather not end up with a hole in my shock.
