All - curious what any of your experience has been regarding whether or not to obtain a lawyer up after a car accident in which you were not at fault.

Background info: Reason I bought a tacoma a few weeks ago was, I was stopped on the highway in traffic. Guy behind me didn't notice we were stopped. Smashed into me and my Accord with his gigantic SUV, sent me into guy in front of me. My car totaled. Some bad whiplash and strained muscles in my back and shoulder and neck. going to PT for it 1-2x per week. The other guy's insurance has admitted full fault. Wondering if any of you have had experience with a lawyer and whether it's a good use of time and resources. I dont expect any major long term injuries but it has been difficult to do yardwork, play with my little dudes, etc.

All input and experience is appreciated.

Hell yes lawyer up because even if you weren’t hurt the insurance company will try to low ball the hell out of you for your car and other things.

Been rear ended twice and lawyers up both times.

I was rearended while stopped at a crosswalk about 8 years ago. Tried working it out with their insurance adjuster myself. I still have pain in my right hip from my foot on the brake and getting jammed forward. I remember statements from the adjuster like "oh well were only going to pay for 8 PT visits". After about 8 months of BS, I recruited help from an attorney friend. He wrote a few letters, had a few phone correspondences, and ultimately was forced to file a claim for a court case before they paid any type of injury. My friend didnt charge me but I gave him a check for 25% (~$1700) of the settlement.

IMO, the insurance companies just run you around for medical records, all this is part of their game to wear your patience down so you will take the lowest offer ossible. They are completely apathetic about your injuries or property damage. They just look at the numbers.

I'm not say to layer up but I no longer have any sympathy for any insurance company. Pay as little as you can, and in return, when emergencies or accidents happen, utilize it to the best you can. Thats what they are there for.

Careful, after many crashes it is 50/50

A lawyer can help. Only issue is you can no longer talk to the insurance companies or strike deals for payoff or pay out.

The deal with lawyers is they can take more time than usual.

If you are not savvy with legal speak or are to injured to do all the things needed, then yes, a lawyer is your best bet. Just be sure to ADD the fees to the settlement. If not you end up with way less than you should.
