OP has a point. There is a lot of group-think, uninformed knee-jerk opinions, and confirmation bias on this website.

 

Yeah, based on our collective personal experience. However, none of us made OP take it to the dealership and spend $100 for nothing.

 

Yes, but I think he’s just poorly articulated something I totally agree with. I find myself wanting to check my tranny level with no reason to do so other than TW.

 

I was the same, before I did my research and realized my transmission troubles was related to the TSB update.

I will say, however, that I never once considered having the dealership check the fluid. If the TSB didn't work, I would have tried something else.

 

So, you're mad at TW for following the advice of a Dealership service advisor after two other advisors told you not to worry about it? You has the dumbs.

 

Both service advisors advised against the check. No one at Toyota recommenced the service. That is OPs point, and I think it’s a good one to consider:

Do I have an actual problem, or have I convinced myself I have a problem after reading TW?

 

What are you talking about? OVTune cures everything! It’ll turn your truck into a race car and you’ll blow by dodge demons on the drag strip!

 

That's $100 well spent IMHO.

Or you could have checked it yourself and used the $100 for an OBD scan tool.

Or, you could not worry about it and spend that 100 dollars on a hooker. ( I know of one readily available)

If your transmission was exhibiting legitimate symptoms that would warrant a level check, then it should have been down for free, but if you just wanted it checked, then a hundred bucks is a pretty reasonable charge for that. Checking the transmission fluid level on these is not at all like it used to be. It's quite involved and it involved monitoring the fluid temperature within a precise range, for starters.

Mine had the massive full throttle hesitation and sometimes would not shift back into 6th after cresting a grade - two legitimate concerns. The dealer, with no argument at all, checked the level and did the transmission upgrade flash. The fluid was full and the flash had very little if any effect.

 

Gonna arrange a TW intervention for you bro.

And you didn't know that? Let me give you a clue... 95% of the people here have no clue what they are talking about when it comes to vehicles. I'm sure they are nice guys and good at something but not vehicles. Even the so called mechanics.
There are about 10-20 people here that can actually drop some knowledge and a lot of people that will argue with them from a position of ignorance.

This is truth.

 

Stop listening to the BS here on TW. You have to realize that less than 1% of all Tacoma owners participate here. Drive your truck and enjoy it. Quit fretting over every little rattle and vibration. If it is really a concern, take it back to a dealer and have them address it.

I have an early 2016, and it has been great.

It's a truck. Enjoy it and don't over-think every little stupidness!

Hey OP look at it this way you don't have to worry about it no more . You have to sort through the right and the wrong on here . I too was thinking hard about checking mine but don't think I will now that I read your post . I know it doesn't help but thanks .
