It happens a lot Ford is under a class action lawsuit for the lugnuts. It's not just a Toyota thing it's a cheap manufacturer thing.

They may be bad, but that's not why.

Did they show them to you off the vehicle? Pictures for us?

Sounds like bullshit to me. Lug nuts DO get gobbered, usually from faulty installation or removal. Some have a thin 'shell' to add bling that is notorious for splitting/rounding. Untrained techs can muck up a whole mess of 'em in a hurry. I deliver quite a few lugs/studs every week.

You still are. Both Scions and Tacomas qualify as imports. :D

Can confirm, have had issues with my lug nuts on my 2005 Taco.

It was my fault however. One too many a beer and a husky air gun enabled me to summarily obliterate my front left lug nuts and studs. The truck had a myriad of other issues (due to youth and incompetency I decided a pre-runner TRD-OR was good enough for off roading) and was promptly traded in for a turd gen.

The flat-seat lug nuts for alloy wheels have stainless steel caps and the caps will swell due to corrosion in between the nut itself and the cap, not to mention being goobered up by impact guns. Mine are all 10 years old and look like hell but they work just fine. Need to use 22mm socket on them, however...

I had this issue when I went to take the wheels off of my truck for the first time. The lugs are just a nut, with a thin metal shell pressed over them. Had to cut mine off and ordered new, fully steel lug nuts. If you take a 22mm socket or the 22mm side of a 4-way, you should be able to beat it onto the lugs and take them off.

Replace the shitty, chrome cap, botched abortion, hell raising, socket hammering, hair pulling, cursing and screaming, 2 piece lug nuts with some 1 piece, should’ve did this the first time lug nuts. Ford, dodge, Jeep, Toyota, Lexus, Range Rover, probably more all suffer from this issue. Dorman makes solid 1 piece lugnuts

I fouled up the factory 21mm nuts by using a non metric lug wrench. At this very moment I have a bag of 24 nuts that weighs about 10 pounds. Warping from heat or road conditions? No way.

Ford is under a class action lawsuit due to their shitty nuts. Only a matter of time before Toyota and the others get sued

It's not just a matter of using an impact or over torquing. It's that water gets between the 2 pieces and the cap starts to corrode. That's the main cause.
