As Brett pulled into line at the top of the hill, I jogged back down to my truck - excited as usual when the trail requires a bit of attention. And, like the first three guys, I made it up unscathed - though I did stall once, "A little too trusting of the low gears, like Frank." Laughed Monte.

The low gears definitely are nice! :D

...Our last step before new ground was to head down the Silver Steps one more time. This is a fun section of trial that makes it's way over the slickrock and gets the trucks a little flexy-twisty. In fact, while I found this entire trail to be fun - and while there are definitely more challenging parts - I think this is the most enjoyable part. Plus, the views in front of you while you're there...

...Having dozed off to sleep, I was awoken by an unusual sound about an hour later. It sounded like small grains of sand landing on the tent and rolling down the rain fly. Rain? No - it definitely didn't sound like rain, which lands with a single drop. A squirrel in a tree above, dropping pieces of pine cone on the tent? I didn't think I'd parked under a tree...

Summer in the Pacific Northwest is hard to beat. So, I wouldn't blame you for wondering why - with a week of sun and 75°F in store before Memorial Day - we were headed for the inclimate weather of the Oregon-Idaho border and Hells Canyon.

    So let's start there.

Read the first part of the story and see all the photos - Cold Day in Hell('s Canyon)

I used the ARB awning room for the first time last night. It sure was nice to pee standing upo_O. I still have my RTT on my trailer. This is a great backup plan for quick trips.

The same shit everyone else has.
I added a second LED strip to my awning. This thing is slowly turning into a UFO with all the lights.

    upload_2019-6-13_0-43-33.jpg

Any suggestions on adding some red lighting to my shell? The white light is nice but I wanna add some red as well for night vision. I thought about changing all the LED strips to RGB+W strips to be able to change the color but it seems like a ton of work I don’t wanna redo. I’d like to install a small red LED pod kinda like a dome light but haven’t found a solid solution.

As we ticked away the miles, there were two things going through our minds: first - how beautiful it was down here at bottom of the canyon. A bit further north, the sun was now out again, the temperatures were in the 80°F's, and the many-greens-of-spring were all around us. Second - where was this horrible road that we'd been warned - and become so excited - about?!

It's all covered in the full story, complete with photos: Hells Canyon Part 3 - Dug Bar, "Gold Mines," and Horses

Part 4: The Last Full Day

...It was at that point that we were waylaid by the fishery folks who were back at the tent we'd investigated the night before - there to count how many fish they'd caught in their Archimedes-screw trap during the night. We chatted each other up for a few minutes - us curious about their operation; they curious how we even found this place - before setting off downstream.

Did a little camping. Tried a thermarest z-lite pad and it really wasnt comfortable. Sure i slept but there were quite a few toss and turns. Might buy a small air mattress to replace.20190614_093154.jpg

I really like my klymit static V. For me it's super comfy for back and side. I'm only 5'-6" and 155# though.
