Not so a nail yes a spike no. If they won't patch it they would be glad to sell you a new one I bet. Getting a chain tire store to do it probably won't happen but a good independent will. One on my truck right now was repaired a good 20K ago mind you this is done from the inside not a plug a real patch.

I wouldn't use the word incompetent. Greedy perhaps...since the dealer probably makes more money on the Toyos.

I recently got a nail on a rear tire of my Fiat Spider; the tire was done. The OE tires are Bridgestone Potenzas. I approved Discount Tire the purchase of two slightly wider Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3+, which is a better tire, to go in the rear.

I ended paying more, but it was my decision not theirs. That's how it should roll.

I have had two side wall nail / screw punctures and have respectively two separate tire shops places say they cannot and will not patch a sidewall. The first on my 2004 FWD civic and I was poor so I plugged it myself This helped for ~2 months until the tire had another slow leak. I bought two new tires and these lasted a looong time. 2nd on my CR-V with over 10k miles, so I could not just replace 1 or two tires on a AWD. So, came home with a new set of tires, but it was fixed and safe for my family to drive in. Overall, I do not belive they will plug a side wall or even near a side wall.

    Yeah.
The Michelin LTX is a good tire, one of the best out there IMO. You are probably fine, but I would have them swap the spare with the opposite side anyway when your tire comes in. I had a Tundra that sliced a sidewall on a front tire with pretty low miles. I only had the one tire replaced and it pulled on the highway due to different circumferences. You might not notice it on the rear, but when your tires get rotated to the front you might feel a difference. Mine were BFG Rugged Fails, though, and wear probably twice as fast as the Michelins. I just had them swap the other side with the spare.

Go to a different dealer lol, you guys are cute. Sounds like a Honolulu or Mapunapuna, Windward is the better service department.

Considering the extreme options he listed as a way to deal with the perceived problem, it's not really that shocking.

There is ALWAYS assumed risk of getting smoked with ANY topic on TW...

There is a lot of stuff on here I dont get, but this would not fly with me. I do agree with putting the spare on though.
